It should make me uncomfortable, but it kind of feels…good? What the hell?

“You were supposed to come to the dinner tonight with all of the other agents,” I tell him as I wiggle free of his grasp and reach for my towel.

“I told you. I’m not like the other agents. I take risks and make things happen even if it means breaking and entering at the crack of dawn to get to you first. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you. I’m serious.”

“That was a pretty bold move. You scared the hell out of me and I’m still a little pissed, but I do admire your balls.” I grin and blush at the same time. I don’t know what makes me look, but I gaze down at his pants and see something pressing against the zipper.

The vision makes my core clench.

By the looks of the tent in his pants, he’s big everywhere and I can’t help but wonder what he looks like naked. God, where is this coming from? What’s happening to me? Why am I even thinking about it?

“I’m not going anywhere until you agree to be my client. I swear, we’ll be here all day.”

I put my hands on my hips and say, “The five-year-olds will be here for swim lessons at eight. I’ll just slip away in all the confusion.”

“You know you want me, baby girl. Just say yes.” He winks.

He’s right. I do want him. I just don’t know if that has anything to do with his ability as an agent or my desire to go to the Olympics. He’s very handsome and extremely charming in an overly confident, caveman sort of way. I didn’t know I was into that, but here we are.

“I can’t make that decision without speaking to my parents, but I like you. I don’t think anyone at that dinner will be able to sell me the way you just did.”

“Alright, how about I come by before dinner and you introduce me to your folks? I think I can convince them to call the whole thing off, and you and I can get straight to work. What do you say?”

My parents will be so mad at me, but I think he’s right. I think he could talk a lion into becoming a vegetarian. “Okay. Do you know where I live?”

“The address is on the invite, baby girl.”

I suck in a sharp breath, my body going all sorts of crazy. Baby girl? It’s crazy but I feel a rush of heat each time he says that.

“Okay. Don’t show up more than an hour early. though. Promise? If you do, you'll ruin everything and my parents will kill me.”

“An hour is all I need. Get your gear together so I can walk you to your car. I don’t like the idea of you being alone in that dark, empty parking lot.”

“You’re already looking after your investment, huh?”

“No, I’m looking after you,” he says and my heart skips a beat.

I’ve only just met him, but I’ve already been subjected to several feelings. I don’t know what to make of that.

He tosses my bag over his shoulder and takes me by the arm, leading me out into the night. As we exit the rec center, I ask him, “Do I use the key or can you reverse pick the lock?”

“You’re adorable.”

He laughs, leads me to my car, and opens the door for me.

“I guess I’ll see you at six, then?”

“I’ll be there. It was my honor to meet you,” he replies.

He’s still watching as I exit the parking lot, and I find myself drawn to make a U-turn and drive right back to him. I want to talk to him some more so I can get his story, but I don’t even know him. As much as my gut tells me that he’s everything he says he is, I can’t just drop my guard that easily. I’ll wait to see how I feel after a few hours pass. However, I doubt the time will make much difference.

MALCOLM

Some men would doubt themselves if they were in my situation.

Jet lagged with no sleep, I’m about to convince a pair of overbearing sports parents to let me take their daughter away from them. I’m not worried because I’m always at my best when the odds are against me. The challenge amps me up and gets me hard. There’s no stronger drug on the planet than winning.

I check myself in the mirror and fix my burgundy tie. When combined with my gray suit, a little splash of color helps me stand out from the sea of incompetent suits who want to get in the way of my plans. Marissa is mine and I plan to make good on my word. Now that I’ve seen her in person, there’s nothing I won’t do to make her dreams come true for her.
