I grinned wickedly just as he looked up from his phone.

My heart skipped a beat at the sight of those dark green eyes.

“You waited,” I said softly.

His grin filled his face, and I wanted to run up and kiss him.

If I didn’t have my pack, I might have.

But the damn thing weighed a ton, and there was a Stanley dupe in there that might very well tip the hell over and soak all my things.

He pushed off his wall lean and faced me. “I don’t have your number.”

My heart skipped a beat at the sexiness of the move.

God, he really was beautiful.

I gently set my purse down on the ground next to the wall, then walked the remaining space between us before coming to a stop with my toes touching his. Looking up, I smiled happily at him before reciting my phone number.

He didn’t pull his phone out like I thought he would, only repeated it back to me.

“My memory is really good,” he said when I gave him a surprised look at the accuracy of his recitation.

I shrugged. “I can’t remember what I go into rooms for, let alone a number. I don’t even know my parents’ or siblings’ numbers.”

His hand went to my hip, and he pulled me into his chest.

I, of course, went willingly, because what dumbass would ever say no to a man like him?

When I was pressed to him, hips to breasts, he said, “I don’t think your siblings or parents deserve your memorization of their number.”

Then he kissed me.

I melted even further into him, my hands clutching at his straining biceps as I did.

Boy, could Quincy Carter kiss.

Like everything else the man did, he mastered it. Mastered me.

There wasn’t a single nerve in my body that wasn’t tingling with anticipation when he pulled away.

His lips were moist from our kiss, and his eyes were sparkling as he said, “I have to go back to work.”

“Were you involved in the gang shooting this afternoon?” I asked.

He shook his head. “Nope. I was just in the area so I came to help babysit them until they were awarded some new cops to do the babysitting until they can safely be taken to jail.”

“Oh,” I paused, then remembered the pizza. “Thank you for the pizza. I didn’t get to eat in the lunchroom because they were serving seafood, and it scares me.”

He reached up and tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear before saying, “Anytime.”

I melted even further. “You’re a good man, Quincy Carter.”

He winked at me before slowly pulling away. “Sadly, I really do have to go back to work. I might’ve caught a break on my case.”

“The one from last night? Or the one with the train?”

“Both, actually,” he said. “Trace amounts of DNA were found on the victim from last night, and it matched the little bit of DNA that they were able to pull from the crime scene. Which, surprisingly, wasn’t shared with us until now.”

My mouth dropped open. “Really?”

He let me go completely, then walked over to my bag before picking it up and shouldering it. “Really. Let me walk you to your car?”

I nodded, then reached into my scrubs pocket for my own phone. “Unlike you, I can’t memorize numbers like that. Can you tell me yours?”

He said it slowly, letting me get it into the phone before we headed out the door.

We were halfway to where I parked my car, which sadly wasn’t close at all, when he said, “Can I come back over tonight when I’m done?”

My heart accelerated, and euphoria rolled through me. “Of course!”

We reached my car, and he helped me open the door. He waited until I was inside before bending down, using the door and the hood for balance, to give me a kiss.

I lifted my face and kissed him back.

“Be safe, please,” I told him as I reached for my belt.

He winked. “Always try to be.”

Then he was closing my door, and I watched him as I pulled away.

The moment he was out of sight, I squealed in excitement.

Quincy Carter gave me his number!

Quincy Carter was also coming over tonight after he was done working.

He’d walked me to my car.

He’d bought me a pizza.

Could the man get any better?

The answer was yes, yes he could.

When I got home, there was a woman with an Instant Cart order with so many groceries I had nowhere to put it all.

“Thank you so much,” I said.

The woman winked and left, leaving me with tons of food to put away.

Instead of doing that, I pulled out my phone and sent a text.

Me:

If you can get away for more than ten minutes, I want to show you my appreciation.

His answer came quickly.

Quincy:

I can make time for it if it’s what I’m thinking you’re offering.

Me:

If you’re thinking it’s a quickie, or a blow job, then you’re right.
