Until she’s my entire fucking world.
The beginning and end of it.
The way it was always meant to be.
“Take off the mask,” I whisper.
When she doesn’t move, I say more firmly, “Take it off, Fallyn.”
Her muscles turn rigid as her arms drop to the mattress as if weighted down by bricks. As soon as they do, I force myself to straighten. She rips off the black mask and blinks at the weak sunlight that filters in through the gauzy curtains covering the windows.
The moment her gaze falls on me, her eyes widen in shock as she shakes her head. “No.”
Air leaks from my lungs as I shove my hand through my short strands. I knew she’d be angry, and I wasn’t wrong.
Her eyes flash as her face turns ashen.
When I remain silent, her voice escalates with each bitten out word. “It was you the entire time?”
I force myself to hold her furious gaze. “Yeah.”
She scrambles off the bed and snags the robe, turning her back before shaking it out and wrapping it around her naked body. Only when she’s covered head to toe does she swing around to face me again.
Rage vibrates off her in heavy, suffocating waves as she folds her arms tightly across her chest. “I can’t believe you would do something like this!”
Her voice quivers with unspent emotion.
“I’m sorry.” As much as I want to eat up the distance between us and take her into my arms, I remain still. “It might not seem like it, but I was trying to help.”
“By purchasing my virginity?” Disbelief rings throughout her voice as it echoes off the ceiling and walls.
“Would you have really preferred that a stranger take it? Some old man?” Even the thought of that pisses me off. I’d rip apart anyone who dared to touch what’s mine.
“Yes! I would have preferred it be a faceless stranger that I’d never have to see again.”
I shake my head and take a tentative step toward her. The truth is out of my mouth before I can stop it. “How could I let another man touch you?” There’s a pause before I force out the rest. “You were always meant to be mine.”
“I was never yours.” Her blue eyes flash with fire and rage. “Not after the accident.”
I take another step, steadily stalking her throughout the room. “No matter what happened, I’ve been here waiting. If you needed money, I should have been the first person you asked for help. You and Miles were my family. Sometimes it felt like you were the only ones I had. You should’ve realized that I would have given you anything you needed. It wasn’t necessary to sell your body to the highest bidder.”
As soon as the last sentence shoots out of my mouth, I realize it’s a mistake.
Her face drains of color as a mixture of hurt, anger, and embarrassment crashes over her features. “I didn’t want your help,” she whispers thickly.
When I reach out, only wanting to pull her into my arms and soothe the fury rushing through her veins, she jumps away as if my touch has the power to burn.
“But you needed it.” I can’t resist adding, “You needed me.”
Sparks fly from her eyes as she tears off the robe she’d just wrapped around herself minutes ago. The fluffy material falls, puddling at her feet as she glares. “Then you should take what you paid for.” When I remain frozen in place, she angles her head and straightens her shoulders. “You want my virginity so badly? Then take it!”
My hand rises to massage the back of my neck as every muscle vibrates with pent-up tension. It’s so fucking tempting to spring forward and accept what she’s offering.
Instead, I force myself to stay still and shake my head. “No. Not like this.”
A strange calm falls over her as she thrusts out her breasts and arches a brow. “What’s wrong? Isn’t this how you imagined the scenario playing out?”
Instead of waiting for an answer, she spins around and stalks to the bed before climbing onto the king-sized mattress and settling in the middle of it. My gaze stays pinned to her the entire time. There’s no way I could look away even if I wanted to. Especially when she arches her back and spreads her legs so wide that I can see every delicate inch.
A tortured groan rumbles up from deep within my chest as confusion circles through my brain.
“Come on, Wolf,” she taunts. “Take what you bought.”
Chapter 26
Fallyn
Air gets trapped in my lungs, making it impossible to breathe as I wait for his reaction. My brain reels as I stare at Wolf. It’s almost impossible to reconcile that it’s been him all along.
Is this something he does often?
Buys virgins?
The thought sickens me, and bile rises in my throat.
My attention stays locked on him as he swallows up the distance and settles at the end of the bed between my spread thighs. Any moment my heart will explode from my chest before thrashing around on the hardwood floor as a fresh wave of nerves crashes over me.
