So even though they were both a bit brisk, I decided not to hold it against them. I have to remind myself, though, that they were the help, nothing more, though they certainly didn’t act like it. In fact, they seemed as if they’d rather be anywhere else but here with me.

I did appreciate the way they got me out of there and into the back of the SUV posthaste with no one the wiser that it was me shrouded from head to toe like a mummy. What I did not appreciate was their music of choice.

“Turn that off.” They both ignored me the third and the fourth time I asked until I reached between them to do it myself. Tyler turned his gaze towards me, and I swear something cold and icky ran down my spine.

I sat back carefully, feeling suddenly afraid, until he reached for the radio. I was very pleased that he had remembered who I was and who he was when I thought for sure that he was going to do my bidding, but instead, he turned it all the way up.

If my time in the hospital was excruciating, it didn’t come close to the ten minutes or so I was in that SUV listening to her screeching voice. I know she sang that song for my man; I know she was sending him messages, and he was doing the same. I’m not stupid.

“What the fuck, are they playing her whole damn record?” I think I’d just heard five of her songs in a row.

“That’s not the radio Ms. Andrews.”

“My name is Sumner, Mrs. Sumner. How many times do I have to say that?”

Neither man answered me or even acknowledged that I spoke. I was back to hating him and wishing Ryder had come to collect me himself. “Where’s Ryder? Where’s my husband?”

“He’s at the Saunders estate. He asked us to take you somewhere else since your house is under quarantine.”

“What? Why can’t I go with him?”

“He’s not on vacation, ma’am. He’s working. Mr. Saunders didn’t think it was a good idea for you to join him; he thought you might be too much of a distraction.”

“Well, where are you taking me?” Nothing was turning out the way I’d imagined or hoped.

Even now, after I’d been near death, he still didn’t come to see me. If anyone heard about this, they’d think he didn’t care. Then everyone would know.

Finally, the music turned off, and he turned the radio on. I sat back to relax as we got closer to home, well, the town where we live, at any rate, since I couldn’t even go home to my own bed. There was some cute little jingle playing on the radio before a familiar voice came through the speaker.

I hate this guy; well, sometimes I do. He’s rather hit or miss. I only like him when he’s dragging someone I don’t like, but I hate him because of his obvious bias when it comes to Elena.

I don’t recall when it started, but I don’t think it was always like that. But lately, within the last few weeks before I became ill, he’s been showing his tail where she’s concerned. Always singing her praises and pushing either her businesses or her new shows, whatever she was working on at the time.

Thankfully he was on a different track this evening, and I didn’t have to hear anything more about her or how great she is. ‘Well, ladies and gentlemen, it’s been brought to our attention that Janie Andrews, the estranged wife of heartthrob and musical popstar Ryder Sumner, has had a bout with karma, and karma knocked her on her ass.’

‘In a little while, let’s say two minutes. There will be pictures downloaded on our website. Fair warning, you may want to put down whatever food or drink you’re having before taking a look at these. I’ve seen them firsthand, folks, and I’ve got to say, they are not for the faint of heart.’

‘Sources say that this is the result of black magic backfiring. So, to all of you out there who backed that horse five years ago when the ill-fated nuptials took place, give yourselves a hand. It seems there is some truth to the story that Ms. Andrews, her parents, and some other not-so-desirable characters put their little heads together and came between the lovebirds at the time, Elena Gianni and Ryder Sumner.’

‘There’s a lot to read between the lines but guess what, my friends, you won’t have to. Tonight’s exclusive story comes from the woman herself who helped Janie Andrews get her man. Be sure to tune in, and uh, let me know what you think about those images that should be downloaded now on the site.’

‘Don’t crash it, people; let everyone have a look. The images will be up indefinitely as we’ve bought the rights, as well as some very juicy recordings from Ms. Andrews’ stay in the hospital.’
