“Is it?”

“We have a child together,” she goes on, “he should have told me about it.”

“Like I said, he was probably worried you’d ask questions and put yourself in danger tryin’ to find the answers.”

“Well, he would have been right. I am going to find answers. You can’t just forget someone in your life exists, especially in that situation.”

Pushing forward, I rest my elbows on my knees. “Not a good idea diggin’ into this. You have no idea how dangerous it could be. Cade kept it from you for a reason. You ought to hear him out before doin’ somethin’ stupid.”

“I’ve heard enough,” she grumbles, leaning back and crossing her arms.

“You’re a stubborn overgrown child when you’re mad, Addison.” I chuckle, unable to stop it.

“Oh, eat a dick, Brian. You’re just trying to be on Cade’s side because you kept a secret from Janine.”

Flinching, I keep the grin, but her words bring the guilt right back into my heart. “You’re right, I did, which is why I’m tellin’ you to hear him out. You know he’s part of a club, and you’re more than aware sometimes we do dangerous shit. He did something, long before you, and he doesn’t have to answer for it.”

“Um, yes he does, if it involves a fucking family member.”

“Do you know what that family member is like? She could be a fuckin’ monster.”

Addison grunts, but she doesn’t answer because she knows I’m right.

“Go talk to your man, sort this shit out.”

“I will, soon,” she mumbles, exhaling. “Right now, I am staying here and avoiding him completely.”

“Mature.”

She grins. “I never said I wasn’t petty.”

Chuckling, I push to my feet. “I’m goin’ to let you be. Think about what I said, before you get too pissed at him.”

She nods. “Yes, yes, I hear you.”

Pushing to her feet, she gives me a hug before I turn and leave.

She needs time, and time she can have.

But one thing I’ve learned in the last few months is that secrets and anger will kill you, it’s best to get it all out on the table and deal with it.

Once and for all.

“COME ON, PRINCESS,” I grin down at Janine. “You only live once.”

Staring at the small white pill in my hand, she stares up at me.

“What if I have a fit and die or something...”

I chuckle, pulling her close. “I promise you won’t. It’s a buzz, and then we’re goin’ to jump out of that plane.”

Pointing to the plane, I watch her face pale.

“I know I’m trying to be more spontaneous and stuff, but ugh, that isn’t a good idea.”

“Do you trust me?” I murmur.

Her eyes swing to mine. “Yes.”

“Then let’s do this.”

Letting out a loud yell, as if to hype herself up, she takes the pill from my hand and shoves it in her mouth. Swallowing before she can back out, she stares at me, and I know she is pushing all her limits being here today. I’m proud of her, though. I like seeing this side to her, and I like watching her take risks. It’s good for her.

“Are you two ready?”

The instructor appears, and I give him a nod.

Janine turns to me, hopping around like a hyped-up rabbit. “I’m scared. Ugh. I don’t think I can do it.”

I take her face in my hands. “Close your eyes, and I’ll do the jumping. Trust me, how you feel after it will change your entire life.”

Nodding, we turn and make our way to the plane.

The ride up is quick, and I can feel the effects of the drug already taking over my body, making it warm. A buzz washes through me and my eyes feel a little heavy as I turn and look to Janine, who is staring down at her hands. When she looks up at me, there is a lazy smile on her face. Oh yeah, it’s working for her.

“I’m not nervous anymore,” she whispers, leaning in closer to me, “do you think it’s safe for us to jump out of a plane when we’re high?”

“Least it won’t hurt if we die.”

She slaps my arm. “That’s not funny.”

“You two ready to suit up?”

Glancing at the instructor, I stand as he helps me get everything on. The guy who is jumping with Janine starts getting her ready, too. Her eyes are slightly dazed, but I can see the nerves trickling back in. When we’re ready to jump, I look over to her and grin. “You’ve got this, baby. Trust me, it’s worth it.”

“I don’t think I can do it.”

Reaching out, I take her hand. “Close your eyes and just go with it.”

Stepping up to the edge of the plane once the door is opened and I’m ready, I look over my shoulder to her before we jump. The thrilling rush that comes over me is even better than the last, and I can hear my own laughter trickling through the breeze. I don’t know if Janine jumped, but fuck, I hope she did. I know it’ll change her life.
