“I know, I’m sorry. I needed to get out of my house and I didn’t know where else to go.”

I would have preferred Travis’s apartment, but the fact is that Leslie’s met Maryanne and Ben in person, so she knows what they can be like. Nodding in commiseration, Les leads me over to the pool house.

“You can always come here, you know that. What happened, girlfriend?”

I throw myself on Leslie’s couch. “My parents are still on my back about becoming a real estate agent.”

“Wow, still? That’s insane. They really need to accept you’re not following in their footsteps.”

I roll my eyes.

“I know, right? I wish they would just get the picture, but it doesn’t matter how many times I say no. Now, I’m practically living in my room 24/7 to avoid them, but I have no other choice! They just won’t accept it.”

Les shoots me a sympathetic look while twining a piece of curly brown hair around her finger.

“Maybe if you do something else, they’ll finally take the hint.”

I squint. “What do you mean by ‘do something else’?”

She shrugs.

“You talked about opening a coffee shop. That’s a real career they might get behind, right? You’d be your own boss and you’d have direction, as they call it.”

I bite my lip. “I don’t know. I mean, yes, I’d love to, but I’m not sure I can afford it yet. It takes a lot of capital! You have to rent a space, buy furniture, not to mention mugs and coffee beans and napkins.”

Les grins cheekily.

“We’ll figure something out. Don’t worry, girlfriend. Ms. Mistral has your back.”

Suddenly, her phone dings with a text and she snatches it up before blushing heavily.

“Is that Frank?” I ask.

She nods. “Yeah. He just wrote ‘thinking about you.’”

“Aw, that’s adorable. No seriously, you guys are gross.”

Leslie laughs. “Shut up. I’m really happy! Frank is good for me.”

I nod.

“He is good for you, and I can see it on your face. I’m happy for you, girlfriend, because he seems like a really decent guy, and not your usual type at all.”

Leslie makes a face.

“You mean the tattooed ex-cons that I usually go for?”

I laugh.

“Yes, and it’s a plus that Frank has a job. I mean, that’s huge! The guys you were with before always wanted to mooch off of you.”

Les grins and gets a mischievous look in her eye.

“By the way, I know Frank is pretty skinny looking but actually, he’s huge.”

I shake my head with confusion.

“Uh, Les, I’ve seen Frank. He is not huge. He’d have to work out like a maniac and take supplements before he’d even qualify as medium-sized. No offense, but Frank’s just not big.”

She grins mischievously. “I don’t mean that kind of big. I mean down below …”

My mouth drops open and then I giggle.

“Really?”

She nods.

“Wow. Just wow.”

Leslie sighs and throws herself back on the couch.

“Yeah. I didn’t realize sex was better when you don’t do it right away. You know we waited until the third date, right? That’s long for me. Plus, really feeling Frank has made it the best I’ve ever had. His huge cock helps too, when it comes to the feelings department, if you get what I mean.”

OMG, all this double innuendo is crazy, but it’s great! I’m glad Leslie has finally found a guy who seems like the real thing instead of the idiots she’s dated in the past. But then my buddy sits up and looks at me. “We need to find you a guy too, Pep. One who’s at least as big, with just as much feeling.”

I smile as I feign innocence. “What?”

Leslie practically bounces up and down.

“Yeah, because I want you to be as happy as I am! You deserve someone as kind, caring, and hung as Frank.”

I blush. Little does Les know, but I’ve already found my Big Black and he keeps me very happy all the time, whether in a meadow, in his car’s backseat, or even in my childhood bedroom. Maryanne and Ben would die if they knew about that incident, and I let out a giggle inadvertently.

“Peps, are you even listening to me?” Les demands.

I blink innocently. “Sorry, what?”

“I know you’re under a lot of stress with your parents and stuff, but I think a nice guy would be good for you! Frank has a bunch of friends, and we could set you up.”

Immediately, I begin to shake my head.

“You’re not setting me up. Definitely not. I don’t want you to fix me up with any of Frank’s friends.”

Les nods.

“I swear, that’s not my plan. I just figure if you come over to Frank’s with me tonight, we can invite his friends over. If you hit it off with one, that’s great! If not, you got a night away from your parents. Win-win, right? It’s not a set-up. Not really.”

Leslie looks at me hopefully as I gnaw on my lip, thinking things over. She’s right. It’s not a set up, but that’s not the real reason why I don’t want to go. I don’t want to be there because it feels like I’d be being disloyal to Travis somehow, even though we’ve never “defined the relationship” or anything like that.
