“But we found his cut,” the man points out.

“I took it back and left it there. I didn’t want anything to be found that would link Breaker back to me or Tinny. A couple of members from the Feral Kings MC—the ones that shot Breaker—saw me before it happened. They knew who I was. I couldn’t take any chances.”

“You did take a chance. You stayed to try to save me and the other guy, knowing they might circle back and discover you. It was too dangerous. You should have let me die. Although now that I have you and Tinny, I’m really glad you didn’t.”

“I couldn’t leave you there, Breaker, and that was before I fell in love with you.”

That makes him grin, his body relaxing at once. “You love me, Doc?”

“Like you didn’t know,” I laugh.

“Well, I suspected, but it’s good to hear. I love you, too, you know?”

“That was pretty clear when you threatened your sister because of me. Sorry about that, Skylar,” I add, with a smile in his sister’s direction. I saw the pain on her face when Breaker yelled at her. It hurt me too, maybe because I know what it feels like when someone who is supposed to love you lashes out and hurts you instead.

“I deserved it. I just didn’t realize Mattie had lost his memory. Are you seeing a doctor?” she asks.

“Yeah, I’ve had a few appointments. He seems to think my memory will eventually come back. Everything checked out okay. They think I may have hit my head on the guardrail around the temporal lobe. There was some evidence of blood there, but it stopped bleeding on its own.

“That’s good,” she whispers.

“Did the bast—” I clear my throat to keep Joker from cursing and he winks at me. “Did those men shoot you like they did, Diego?”

“Yeah, but it was a through and through. Doc was able to patch me up.”

Skylar laughs, and we all look at her. “What’s so funny?” Cooper asks.

“That Mattie is calling Indy, Doc. He’s wanted to be like our father his whole life and it’s kind of funny that he calls Indy exactly what Dad calls Mom—especially when he can’t remember that fact.”

“He does?”

“Yeah. Mom’s a doctor that specializes in emergency medicine.”

“Wow. That sounds like a demanding job,” I murmur.

“So is being a vet, I’d imagine. A life is a life, and I’ve known pets worth a million people.”

I grin at her. I can’t really deny that.

“I should tell you that Indy and I were planning on going to Kentucky later this week to meet all of you. I discovered who I was after meeting a member of the Savage Brothers MC chapter.”

“Who was that?” Torin asks.

“Devil.”

“Shit, really?”

“Mommy! He said a bad word!” Tinny announces.

Joker looks at me and I swear I think the man blushes. It seems out of place. The guy is almost as big as Breaker, with tousled black hair and bedroom eyes. He couldn’t hold a candle to Breaker, but he definitely is hot.

“Sorry,” the man mumbles, and I hold back my laughter.

“You need to go sooner, Mattie. Our parents are slowly grieving themselves to death. Not to mention Thea—our sister. She’s a mess. Plus, she’s pregnant!”

“We’ll go at the end of the week. Indy is working to clear her schedule.”

Skylar stubs-up and gives Breaker a disgusted look. “Losing your memory must have altered who you are, because right now you’re being pretty damn selfish.”

“Watch your mouth around my daughter or you can leave,” he orders. “I’m not going to Kentucky without my family by my side.”

“I don’t see why you can’t bring them with you another time and go now to let everyone know you’re okay and alive. This is your mother and father. The people who gave you life and raised you,” she points out.

“They’re also people that I don’t know. They’re people that when I meet them, I will meet them with my woman and daughter by my side.”

“Mattie—”

“Baby, let it go. Breaker’s right. It’s plain that he’s claimed Indy as his old lady and little Tinny as his. I wouldn’t want to face what he’s going through without you by my side either. You need to understand that. If you don’t stop pushing, you’re going to push your brother away forever.”

Skylar looks up at Torin and nods. When she turns her face back to Breaker, that’s when I see the tears running down her cheeks. “I’m sorry. It’s just, I really thought you were dead, Mattie. I guess I just want you back in Kentucky, where I know you’re safe and okay.”

“I’m better than okay. I may not remember the life I once lived in Kentucky, but I know without a doubt that I’ve never been happier.” Once he says that, he leans over and kisses me quickly on the lips.
