I’m not at my desk for ten minutes when a tall, leggy blonde comes in from the elevator bank.
“Can I help you?” I ask.
“I’m looking for Connall Ahearn.” The way she says it lets me know this is not going to be a normal interaction.
“Do you have an appointment?” I ask, knowing full well she doesn’t.
“I don’t need one. I’m his fiancée.”
I know it’s not professional, but I can’t help it. I burst out laughing. I mean the kind of laugh that could wake the dead.
“I’m sorry could you repeat that?”
“Are you stupid or something? I’m his fiancée. Is he in?”
“He is, but I’m his girlfriend. He never mentioned you.”
“Feb?” Connall asks, coming out of his office.
“Yes?” I ask.
“Caroline?”
“Oh, you do know her?”
“I mean, yeah.”
“Well, your fiancée would like a word with you,” I say, barely able to contain myself. A few months ago, I would have been so self-conscious to be anywhere near this woman, but Connall has shown me that I have nothing to worry about. Nothing.
“February, I swear, I was never engaged to this woman.”
“How can you say that, Connall? We…”
“Dated for a few months six years ago. What are you doing here?”
“I want you back.”
“I don’t want you back. I’m seeing someone.”
“This… person?” she asks, gesturing to me.
“Yes,” I say.
“I wasn’t speaking to you.”
“You should leave, Caroline.”
“But… I love you. I’ve loved you for years.”
“I’m sorry. I don’t feel the same way.”
“How dare you? No one tells me no,” she says, picking up my stapler. She throws it at Connall, hitting him in the forehead. Now, I’m pissed.
“Uh, no, you did not just assault the man I love,” I shout.
“I did and he’ll be sorry he ever turned me down for a frumpy secretary,” she says, turning to leave in a huff.
“Fuck you,” I shout, my breathing ragged. All I want to do is go after that woman and beat the fucking shit out of her.
I take several deep breaths, trying to calm down. I only start to when I hear Connall’s voice behind me.
CHAPTER
FOURTEEN
CONNALL
I watch Clarissa leave the office in a huff. Picking up February’s phone, my eyes never leaving February; I tell security that under no circumstances is she ever to step foot in this building again. Once I hang up, I walk up to the seething woman and pull her into my arms. “It’s about damn time baby.” I am smiling so hard I think my jaw is going to break.
“I should have told you before when we weren’t making love. I am so in love with you Con. Not only are you kind and compassionate, but you are protective, and so damn growly when men get close to me and even though I shouldn't find that sexy, I do.”
“You damn right. No one is good enough to breathe the air as you, let alone get close to you.” I tell her, getting pissed thinking about another man touching my woman.
“See,” she says, smiling. She stands on her tiptoes and kisses me like a woman starved. “I love you. I love you. I love you.” She says, kissing me with each statement. I grip her hair and attack her mouth, my tongue sliding inside of it, nibbling on her lip.
“Does that mean you are going to marry me?” The ring has been burning a hole in my fucking pocket since we got back from our trip.
“Yes!” she shouts before hugging me. I pull the blue box from my pocket and open it. “Oh my God, Con. It’s perfect.” She gasps with her hand on her mouth. “It's exactly the one I always dreamed about. How did you know?” I slide it on her finger and kiss her hand before smirking at her.
“When it comes to you, baby, there is not much I don't know.” I can no longer contain my joy. I pick her up and spring her around, so fucking happy to finally have her, all of her.
“Whoa there buddy. You might not want to do that.” She says, making me put her down.
“What’s wrong?” She lowers her eyes and peeks at me from under her lashes, making my cock hard. If she is not careful, I am going to strip her right now.
“I’m pregnant.” My mind goes blank for a moment. Everything begins to jumble together as I replay the last few seconds. “Con?” I hear her voice, but the breath I have yet to let out is depriving me of oxygen and words. “Connall, breath.” She commands, holding both sides of my face, and kissing my lips. She knows anytime her body touches mine, everything else fades away. I blink a few times before I look at her.
“Did you just tell me you are pregnant?” She nods her head. I pull her into my arms and just start thanking her. I thank her for giving me something I wanted from the moment I met her: a family. I thank her for loving me back and for making me the happiest man alive.
