Likely in bed. Which she didn’t mind, but the truth was she could use some time to herself. Nate loomed in the background, ready to follow Dare wherever he needed to go. “It’s okay because we’re spending all night together.”

Dare got in her space, his hands coming up to cup her face. “All night, and you’re going to get that sweet ass spanked for the way you handled that guard.”

“I thought I handled him quite well.” She put her hands on his waist. He wouldn’t find the recording device attached to the inside of her bra, but there was a small chance he could activate the microdoser. She didn’t want to have to explain to him why he’d been tranqued twice in one week.

“You were an incorrigible brat, and you’re going to pay.” He pronounced her sentence with a sweetness that belied the words. Or rather gave them the meaning she thought he wanted them to have.

It was all play, a way to live out their inner fantasies. “I promise to cry prettily for you, Sir.”

It was something she looked forward to. Crying made her feel better. Sometimes a good spanking was the only way to get through all the stress and anxiety she didn’t even know she was holding inside.

There was a wealth of satisfaction in Dare’s eyes every time she called him Sir. He leaned over and laid a kiss on her forehead. “See that you do. I might be a while. This guy talks forever.”

That worked for her. Especially since he was going to have Nate with him. “I might go over to Kara’s and pick up a couple of things for tonight.”

“The suite’s clear,” Nate announced as he returned from his walk-through.

“It looks like you’re going to get to sit in on another meeting,” she told the big guy.

“Brilliant,” Nate replied.

Dare looked at her and then Nate, his brain obviously working.

That was not happening. She shook her head. “Nope. He’s going with you. I am not the one who was attacked earlier this week.”

“If someone is after me, the best way to do that is to get you,” he pointed out.

“Everything has been quiet, but the attack happened right here in this hotel. I’m fine. We agreed Nate would watch over you so I don’t have to worry.” She was serious about this. No lies here.

“All right. Be careful,” he said and backed away. He shifted his bag on his shoulder—the one that contained the laptop her team would download this evening. He took it everywhere.

She hated the idea of invading his privacy, but she’d gotten a weird vibe at lunch. When Oakley hadn’t been staring at her chest, he’d been watching Dare with an almost predatory concentration.

He was up to something, and she needed to figure out what. She could start by getting the recording device to her team so they could transcribe it.

One more kiss and he was gone, Nate following behind him.

Her cell buzzed.

You make it back okay, cos?

Her sister. Or someone with Kara’s phone. The real question they were asking was when are you coming in for a debrief.

She texted back.

Had a great lunch. See you in an hour.

A ping and then a thumbs-up to let her know the message had been received and the timing was acceptable.

She let a long sigh go through her because she knew what would happen soon. She would have a fight on her hands the minute she mentioned she wanted to be honest with Dare. Zach would lose his shit. Kala and Cooper would give her lectures on how important their Agency work was. Tristan would say bitter things about throwing her life away that actually applied to him. Lou would try to use reason.

Kenzie would put a hand to her heart and declare it the most romantic thing she’d ever heard of.

And then she would remind Tasha of how important the mission was.

She wished she could talk to her mom about Dare.

She started to peel off the edge of the microdoser when a chime went through the suite, letting her know someone was at the door.

Probably someone from the hotel. They came up all the time to ensure Dare had what he needed. Sometimes they dropped off snacks or flowers for the room.

It was not a uniformed hospitality professional who stood behind the door.

“Hey, Tasha. Is Dare here?” Brian was in the doorway, and he moved around her like he owned the place.

The man came and went as he liked.

“Sorry, he got called into a meeting.” She was surprised Brian didn’t know that. Dare tended to text him about anything business. He’d already been in contact with Brian, texting him on the car ride back to let him know he was returning to the hotel. She closed the door behind her and followed him into the room. “He left a minute ago. You might be able to catch him in the lobby. He said he was going down to the conference center.”
