Then, in the morning, I drove him to prison. It was the hardest send-off of my life. Not just because I knew what it meant for Jerry, but because I knew what it meant for me.

Now, staring at Jerry’s trailer, knowing I have no choice but to go in there and man up to my responsibilities that I signed up for, I have to face the facts…

“I’m screwed.”

I’ve avoided coming here all day. I took the afternoon going over my apartment with a fine-tooth comb just to make sure I’d turned everything off, hadn’t left anything there I’d need, then I did a tune up on my bike to get it running perfectly.

I texted Becca to let her know I’d be running late. She wrote me back saying there was a problem with the sink that she needed me to look at “right away,” but I told her just not to use the water in the kitchen until I got there.

If I didn’t know better, I’d think she was just making up an excuse to get me over there sooner…

“I can’t do this,” I mutter as I stare at Jerry’s trailer. Just knowing she’s in there has me already boning up beneath my jeans. It’s bad enough that she’s Jerry’s one and only daughter, but she’s not even legal yet! Her birthday is the day after tomorrow, and even if I somehow lost all control of myself, I’m not trying to end up in a cell there with my friend, who would certainly be my enemy when he heard what I was in for.

Just then, the trailer door opens, and Becca appears. She’s smiling, wearing nothing more than a pair of gym shorts and a yellow crop top with spaghetti straps. No bra either…

She smiles and waves, but her breasts bounce up and down and tug at my eyes in the way that any red-blooded man would understand. I feel my testosterone levels rise and my blood start flowing like I’m ready for a fight. Christ, she’s incredible.

Her face is like a portrait of beauty, but her body is dripping with sex appeal. It takes every ounce of will power I have to pull my gaze away from her.

“Hi, Dax!” she calls out in the most adorably innocent voice I’ve ever heard in my life.

Yeah, innocent because she is innocent, you fool! I think as I shoulder my bag and walk toward the trailer, keeping my eyes on the ground in front of me, doing my best not to think about what color panties she’s got on under those shorts – or if she’s wearing any at all.

I brush past her and head inside, catching a whiff of her scent as I pass. Some kind of hair conditioner that instantly embeds itself in my lungs and my mind as a memory I know I will be unable to forget no matter what happens from here.

She makes an uncomfortable little squealing noise behind me as I step past her, “Dax? Aren’t you going to say hello to me?”

I don’t want to be rude, but I also don’t want to engage with her. Not tonight. I just can’t.

She’s seventeen, for fuck’s sake. It’s bad enough that Jerry’s got me tangled up with her to begin with, but I’m not catching a case when I lose control of my actions, so I just shake my head and go straight for her father’s bedroom, which will be mine until he’s finished his time.

“I’m tired,” I reply without turning. “I’m gonna hit the sack. I’ll catch up with you tomorrow.”

She makes another sound – the sound of obvious disappointment that tugs at my heartstrings, but I just keep on walking, straight down the cramped hall of the trailer and into the bedroom. I close and lock the door behind me, set down my bag, and collapse onto the bed.

“Fuck…”

Yeah, this is going to be even harder than I thought.

The rest of the day passes slowly. I can hear Becca’s padded footsteps moving about the trailer from the living room to the kitchen, to her room and then back to the living room where she spends the evening watching TV. I even hear her do her best to creep down the hall to my bedroom door. What the hell she’s up to, I don’t know, but she must think I can’t hear her out there tiptoeing around.

I stay where I am, skip dinner, and eventually manage to fall asleep, but am awoken around midnight to the sound of a man’s voice at the door to the outside.

I’m up in an instant and step out of the bedroom to see Becca in the midst of an argument with someone trying to force their way into the trailer.

“No! I said you can’t come in! You have to get out of here!”
