Behind a locked door now, I was able to explore my thoughts at will. Reaching into the shower, I turned the knob to the hottest point, letting the room fill with steam before taking my clothes off and stepping behind the curtain. The sticky juices between my legs beckoned my fingers. It had been a while since I’d pleasured myself. I gently stroked the tip of my clit, and a moan escaped. I was glad I’d turned on the fan in case anyone came home early. My toy called out to me, and I flipped the switch, the sound humming as it vibrated against my body. It felt amazing. With my nerves stimulated to full attention, the movement caused my river to overflow. I imagined Landon’s full mouth licking my wetness, burying his face between my thighs as I pulled his hair.

The pulsing rhythm of the water beat down on me, massaging my muscles as I continued to explore my body. If the rumors were correct, Landon hadn’t been with anyone for years. I wondered what his cock looked like, what it would feel like, and how it would fill me. I thrust the toy inside me until I couldn’t take any more. Setting it aside, I needed to feel my juices racing. My insides tightened with desire. Two fingers in, I stroked slowly, then quicker as my mind thought of nothing other than Landon taking me over and over again. As I hit my peak, my heart raced. I tried catching my breath, waiting for my body to finish contracting, hand braced against the shower wall. The water washed over me, refreshing my soul.

If Landon was half as good as my imagination, we could make a great team. But would he let me get that close? I wasn’t even sure I was his type. From my research, it looked like he didn’t have a type before the accident, just a need to be seen with a different woman each night.

That didn’t bother me. At one time, I’d had a healthy sex life too. But then work took over, and everything else fell to the wayside. The thought of work swung my mood to the other side of the spectrum. Even though I’d hated that job, the anxiety from not knowing where my next paycheck was coming from threatened to take over if I let it. It was easier to act as if my firing had never happened. Of course, I could change that with one phone call. It was all up to me.

After finishing my shower, I lathered and cleaned all my parts, trying to keep my mind off Landon. One wrong thought and I’d miss the whole bonfire and use all the hot water. My sea salt shampoo invigorated me as I breathed in the scent of salt and peppermint mingling in my space. I focused on the questions I needed to ask Landon and how to ask them in a way that didn’t alert him to my true intentions.

I stepped out of the shower, grabbed a towel from the rack, and dried off. The floor above me creaked again, and I heard voices. My parents were definitely home now. Suddenly, I realized my mother would be on alert when I told her about the bonfire, especially with Landon picking me up. I’d never had a great poker face with either of them. She’d know in an instant I was interested in more than an interview.

Sighing, I should have told him I would pick him up. Checking my phone for the time again, I saw it was later than I thought. Holy hell, how long had I been in that shower? There was no time to call him and change the plans. I needed to dress and get upstairs in case he was early. I didn’t need him hanging out with my parents too long.

Thankfully, I’d brought my own jeans. As much as I would love to pretend my hips hadn’t spread through the years, I knew I’d be lying. The shirts fit perfectly, though, sliding over my body like a warm, familiar hug. Maybe I would clean out the rest of the closet and take some of the clothes back to DC with me. If I went back, that is.

A knock on my door startled me. Gee whiz, I was on edge.

“Come in!”

My mother stepped in, eyes widening at my outfit. “Well, that combination is quite the throwback.”

I’d picked an old concert T-shirt and a cardigan. The T-shirt was washed to the point of feeling like a comfy blanket on my soul. I found it funny that in closing my eyes, I’d picked one of my favorites.

“Isn’t it? I forgot about my old clothes being here. I’m headed to a bonfire. With Landon.” The words spilled from my mouth like dominoes in a row. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. It wasn’t like I could keep it from her much longer. He would be here in ten minutes.
