On the Friday of the weekend she planned to spend with Tripp, she’d requested half the day off, so she went into work early to get a few things done before heading home. At one in the afternoon, she cleaned up her small office and stopped by Lauren’s to let her know she was leaving.

Skye knocked on her door before walking inside, smiling as her friend glanced up from her laptop and stopped whatever work she was doing. “I just wanted to let you know I’m heading out for the day.”

“Lucky you,” Lauren said, giving her a cheeky smile in return. “Dare I say you’re glowing?”

Skye laughed then rolled her eyes. “That’s because I’m ovulating. According to what I’ve read, that surge of estrogen makes your skin look smoother and brighter when you’re fertile.”

“Nice little benefit,” she acknowledged humorously. “But I’m thinking that radiant look on your face has more to do with the anticipation of having great, anything-goes sex with Tripp for the entire weekend.”

“Okay, maybe a little,” she admitted. Yes, she and Tripp were on a mission to make a baby, but Skye had also given herself permission to enjoy the process of getting pregnant.

“I knew it,” Lauren said triumphantly. “And I’m so envious. Not about the baby making part, but the sex part. It’s been way too long since I’ve had any.”

Skye tipped her head to the side, curious to know how things were going with the bachelor that Lauren had bought at the auction, who’d very reluctantly agreed to accompany Lauren to her sister’s wedding. “How’s the whole getting-to-know-you phase with Chase coming along?”

Her friend frowned. “Right now, I’m the one doing most of the talking because he’s not a big conversationalist, so it’s like pulling teeth trying to get information out of him so we can at least pull off being a believable couple.” She huffed out a frustrated stream of breath and ran her fingers through her dark hair. “And he’s like a brick wall when it comes to sharing personal stuff, so right now I know little to nothing about him besides his occupation.”

“But you have to admit that he’s a gorgeous brick wall,” Skye said, pointing out the positive. “So at least he’s not hard to look at and will provide you with nice arm candy at the wedding.”

Lauren exhaled a long sigh. “Yeah, he really is hot and super sexy . . . and uptight.” She cringed at that last description. “We only have a few more weeks until it’s showtime, and in order for us to look convincing I’m going to have to get a pry bar to open him up.”

Skye actually felt sorry for Lauren. “Good luck with that.”

“Enough about Mr. Grumpy Pants,” Lauren said, waving a hand in the air to dismiss the discussion. “Tell me, where are you and Tripp going for the weekend?”

“I honestly don’t know,” she replied. “I told Tripp I’d be fine staying at my place, or his. I mean, all we need is a comfortable bed to accomplish our goal, but he insisted that we get away from our everyday life so we could concentrate on relaxing and getting me knocked up without any distractions.”

“Smart man.” Lauren nodded approvingly. “Well, wherever you end up, enjoy your time together and good luck getting one of your fertile eggs pollenated.”

Skye laughed, then left the office and headed home where she changed into a loose, flowing dress and low heels. Nothing fancy, but she didn’t want to spend the weekend in her yoga pants and a tank top, as she normally would if she’d stayed home. She packed a small suitcase with clothes and toiletries, and included the sexy lingerie she’d bought on a whim a few days ago.

Yes, there was a distinct and clinical purpose to this weekend, but there was no reason why her time with Tripp couldn’t be fun, too. Who knew if another round of baby making sex would be in their future. According to the results of Tripp’s semen analysis, the quality and quantity of his sperm was exceptionally high. With her in the throes of ovulation, all the stars were aligned in her favor.

Her cheeks warmed when she recalled their discussion about his analysis report one evening over FaceTime. Tripp joked about the procedure and what it entailed, making fun of the awkward process of masturbating in a sterile room with the end goal of ejaculating. When she’d teasingly asked if he’d watched porn to get him there, he’d replied with, all I had to do in order to come was remember how fucking fantastic it feels to be inside of you.

Yeah, that response had left her breathless, filling her with anticipation of their upcoming weekend together.

Finished packing, Skye zipped her bag and rolled it out to the front room to wait for Tripp to arrive—which, according to the clock in the kitchen ought to be any minute. While she waited, she sifted through the pieces of mail from the past few days that she’d left on the dinette table. A few bills, a couple of normal advertisements, and what looked like a letter with her name and address typed onto a label.
