Rowdy pulled away, and I held his gaze as I swallowed his seed. His green eyes gleamed with pleasure a second before he mumbled, “I’m going to kill him.”

I blinked. “Kill who?”

Rowdy’s thumb lovingly stroked my bottom lip, smearing the cum there. I flicked out my tongue to get another taste. “The boy who taught you to suck dick this good.”

“I—no one taught me unless you count porn. You were my first.”

Rowdy was frowning deeply now. “You’re a virgin?”

“No.” I shook my head. “I just never did that with my ex. He asked all the time, but I…I never wanted to.” Before you was what I didn’t say. We both knew I didn’t need to.

I could see the possessive glint in his eye as his lips parted to speak, but before he could, we both froze at the same time when he heard someone call his name. “Rowdy!”

I’d forgotten we weren’t alone.

I quickly wiped the nut off my chin while Rowdy tucked himself away before helping me to my feet. Once his jeans were righted, he turned his head to glower at the portly Black man of average height bundled up in winter gear to escape the cold.

“Row-dy! Ha-ha!” the intruder called again. “My favorite customer. I thought that was you!” He came to stand in front of us while I searched his face for signs that he’d seen us.

Rowdy now leaned against the Mercedes next to me with his arm casually thrown around my shoulder as he regarded the much older man with a blank stare. “Earl.”

I secretly tittered because I could tell he was in a fouler mood than usual despite the nut he just busted in my mouth.

“I see you found the Mercedes,” Earl said, nodding as he looked the car over himself. Either he was oblivious to Rowdy’s dark mood or used to it like me. “It’s a beautiful ride, for sure. I can get one of my boys to pull it around if you’re ready to bid on it?”

“Yeah, I’ll take it, but I’m not bidding on shit. I can give you eighteen for it right now, and the papers better be clean.”

Earl’s confused gaze danced between Rowdy and me before settling on me for some reason. “I’m Earl, young lady, and you are?” He held out his hand while forcing a smile to his lips, and I hated myself for the asking glance I gave Rowdy. My self-loathing doubled when I saw that he was paying me no mind. His focus was now firmly fixed on the man he was attempting to bully into submission.

“Atlas,” I reluctantly offered while accepting Earl’s dry and callused palm.

“It’s nice to meet you, Atlas.” His smile was warm and genuine this time as he patted my hand gently before letting it drop. He then turned back to Rowdy with a sigh. “You know the rules, boy. Everyone bids.”

Feeling Rowdy straighten next to me, I quickly wrapped my arms around his waist as if I could really stop him from fucking up Earl if he wanted to. With a sharp turn of his head, Rowdy turned his glare on me. I could see in his eyes that he was ready to cuss me out. Until the gentle smile I gave him made every ugly word poised to cut me down vanish into thin air. I placed a gentle kiss on his bicep as I wordlessly pleaded with him to spare the nice man.

Licking his thick lips, Rowdy turned toward Earl again and calmly said, “But not everyone knows that the suspension is fucked up and that one of those morons you hired tried to cover it up.”

I closed my eyes in relief and laid my head on his arm. Even while being completely rigid and full of muscle, it was the best pillow I’d ever known. There was so much power in these arms. The kind you just knew could keep you safe through anything.

And, okay, yes, seeing him beat up a man twice his size helped with that assumption too.

When I opened my eyes again, I saw Earl shaking his head. “I’m sorry about that, son. I didn’t know.” For some reason, I believed him, and I could tell Rowdy did too. He also didn’t seem surprised at hearing his employees were attempting to swindle his customers.

Interesting.

“I told your ass to fire them,” Rowdy chided, even though Earl was old enough to be his father. “I know they came from your nuts and all, but family clearly don’t mean shit to your sons if they’re willing to sabotage your name and business.”

I nodded at the truth in his words.

It was always “family this, family that” whenever your relatives needed a favor, but given half the chance, they’re usually the first to screw you over. “No,” in my opinion, was the most underutilized word in the dictionary.
