“With her.”

“With who?” he shot back smoothly. “I’m here with you.”

“I…yes.” I ignored the nervous flutter in my belly and said, “Do you want to come in?”

“Cool.” He moved closer to come inside, and the smell of his cologne almost sent me to my knees.

I backed away and watched him shut the door behind him. “Do you want something to drink?”

“You got Hennessy?”

“No, sorry. Only wine.”

“I’ll take some water if that’s cool.”

“Great. Make yourself comfortable. I’ll only be a moment.”

Rowdy went into the living room, and I rushed to the bathroom to check my appearance before going to the kitchen to get his water. “So, what really brings you here?” I asked when I joined him.

“What do you mean?”

“You never seemed interested before. You always ignored me.”

“I had a girl, Sissy.”

“Don’t you still?”

“Keeping it real?” Rowdy eyed me.

“Please.”

“It’s not working out with me and her. Some shit went down, and I don’t know if we can get past it.”

“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.”

He chuckled and scooted closer with his arm along the back of the sofa behind me. “Are you?”

I laughed as well to hide my nervousness. “Not really, no. If we’re still being honest, I always thought you and I had a lot in common.”

“Word? Like what?”

“Um…” Rowdy’s stare was intense while I struggled for something to say. “W-we grew up together.”

“I don’t know about all that, baby, but I definitely like what I’m seeing.”

“Thanks. I…I had a lot of work done. I know you like your women to look a certain way, and I wanted to be perfect for you.”

“Hmm.”

I didn’t know why, but I had a feeling I’d said the worst possible thing, so I quickly changed the subject. “You probably don’t remember, but I used to write you letters in high school too.”

“I know,” he said, killing something inside of me. I’d told myself that he never responded because he didn’t know who I was. Had I been wrong?

“Y-you never wrote me back.”

“I didn’t know what to say.”

“Oh.”

“I kept them, though.”

And just like that, hope flared again. “You did?”

“Yup. My girl found them and threw them away.”

That little bitch. I’d teach her. I had a particularly painful death in mind for her, and once she was out of the way, Rowdy and I could move forward. My plan hadn’t gone as smoothly as I had hoped, but what did it matter now when Rowdy was here, sitting next to me, finally seeing me.

Rowdy put his hand on my thigh, and I tensed under his strong grip before forcing myself to relax. “So listen, Sissy. I don’t have a lot of time. I have to get back before my girl notices I’m gone. You gon’ bust it open for a real one or what?”

I was a little startled by his forwardness, but I recovered quickly and said, “I…if you want.”

“Nah, that’s not good enough for me. If you know me like you say you do, you should know I don’t play games. Do you want this dick or not?”

I sucked in a breath as I stared into his green eyes. “Yes, I’d like to make love.”

“Fuck,” he corrected.

“Yes, I’d like to fuck.”

“Cool. Go upstairs and take all that shit off.”

I exhaled slowly and stood on shaky legs. I made it two steps toward the stairs when I turned back to find Rowdy watching me go with a blank expression. There was no lust in his gaze, but I was sure that would change soon enough. “What about her? Atlas.”

“Let’s just take this one day at a time. I need to see what that pussy is like first.”

“Oh. Okay.”

He gave me a closed-mouth smile, and I hurried upstairs. I wished I had time to shower the day away, but I knew a man like Rowdy wouldn’t like to be kept waiting, so I quickly shed my clothes and threw on a red lingerie set. I then let my hair out the chignon and refreshed my lipstick.

I had only just positioned myself on the bed when I heard footsteps on the stairs. Rowdy appeared in the doorway a moment later, and then his gaze swept me and then the room as he prowled inside.

“Is all that for me?” he asked as he approached the bed.

“Yes. I bought it in your favorite color.”

“My favorite color is green, baby, but I appreciate the sentiment.”

My heart fell to my stomach. “Oh.” Rowdy sat on the edge of the bed and then looked in my nightstand drawer. “What are you looking for?” I asked nervously.

He wordlessly reached inside and pulled out a pair of handcuffs. “These.”

I frowned since I didn’t remember buying them. I figured Greg, my husband and soon-to-be ex, must have left them behind, although we’d never used them.

How had Rowdy known where to find them, though?

“What are you going to do with those?”
