Right.

We’re on a phone call.

I gotta buckle that shit in better for the time being.

“Your vitals look pretty healthy. Your heart rate and temperature were fine. Your blood sugar and blood pressure are great. Your cholesterol and weight have room for minor improvements but whose doesn’t, you know?” The laxed last line receives a small, twitched smirk from all of us. “Your kidneys, liver, and thyroid all appear to be functioning within the normal ranges.”

“Back to good news,” I chime in at the same time I fold my arms across my chest.

“You did have some vaginal microtears-”

“And more bad news,” grumbles Nolan.

“-but considering you didn’t display any discomfort nor mention it, I think it’s safe to assume they’ve either healed or are healing. I would suggest – as a medical professional – to assess everyone’s fingernail situation – they are the cause of these micro injuries more often than the average person would think – and to be aware that using water or silicone-based lubricant is an acceptable aid whenever a situation may call or benefit from it.”

Did she really just medically tell us to use more lube?

Is that normal doctor shit or more like a friend of the family model?

And she is technically a friend of the family because me, Bunny, and Nolan are a family.

Full. Flag. Stop.

I may still have some fucking maintenance complaints when it comes to her brother, but I accept that he isn’t going anywhere.

That he doesn’t need to.

That he shouldn’t.

He may not be my favorite make or style, but he matters to the man I love too much to simply demand he fucks off permanently the second we’re done dealing with McAdams.

And from the sound of it, his sister – Valerie – matters too.

The whole goddamn Garcia crew it seems.

Maybe if we all had dinner together it’d be easier to filter?

Maybe if we included their parents in it?

Maybe it’s just constantly seeing him with only his other best friend that really grinds my gears?

I should probably think that shit over.

Figure it out.

Talk about it.

Fuck.

I’m so over Toretto, O’Connor garage style therapy shit.

“Your blood test did reveal that you are indeed pregnant, so please keep the aforementioned information in mind – if you choose to continue the pregnancy – as vaginal dryness is a very common, very normal symptom.”

I’m not entirely sure whose jaw unhinges first or last.

And I’m even less sure about who tries to speak.

“H-h-h-how far along?” Bunny barely stutters out before anyone else.

“About three weeks.”

Additional shock stuns her silent.

“And just because you may not be experiencing many or any symptoms at this time doesn’t mean that you won’t.”

Has she had any?

Is that what the extra desire to shift our gears has been about?

Her sudden odd drive to get things cleaned and organized?

Crying in a bubble bath when she’s convinced herself that she’s completely alone?

Holy fuck!

It is, isn’t it?!

“I can email over some informational material regarding next steps such as prenatal vitamins, changes to your diet, and what you can expect in the coming weeks as well as a couple of OB/GYNs I recommend for this portion of your health. Again – if you choose to continue this pregnancy.”

Instinct has me preparing to scream out that she does want to…that we do…yet Nolan’s fingers flexing wordlessly warns for me to keep my mouth shut.

That this is one of those cases we don’t answer for her.

No matter how much we want to.

GMC knows I fucking want to.

“That would be…” Bunny slowly begins causing all of time to temporarily feel as though it’s gone completely still. “Um…” My best friend squeezes my shoulder tighter to prevent me from interjecting. “Good.” A small bite of her bottom lip is taken. “I uh…I think.”

She thinks getting more information would be good or she thinks having our baby is?

Why isn’t she more sure?

More excited?

“I’ll send the material to the email address on file and upload it to the patient portal you registered for to guarantee you have copies of these results and easy access to me or any other information you may need,” Dr. G politely expresses. “I understand how these results can be overwhelming, so if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask whether that be now or later, okay?”

She nods in spite of the medical professional not being able to see her.

“That goes for all of you,” announces Garcia’s sister.

“Thank you,” I loudly proclaim prompting Nolan to remove his grip.

“Appreciate it, Val.”

Our eyes instantly cut to Rabbit who struggles to simply smile as the call is ended.

Afterward, he drops his phone thoughtlessly onto the table, mouth sealed shut in an obvious refusal to speak until she does.

But she doesn’t.

She hardly moves.

If it weren’t for the fact that I can see her chest rising and falling, part of me would wonder if she was even fucking breathing.
