“But,” I go to say, but his other finger covers my lips.

“No buts. We’ll figure things out. There’s nothing written in stone that we need to do this one way or another. Let’s focus on getting you healthy and fed. The rest can wait.” I roll my eyes. Of course, he thinks it can wait. I, for one, don’t. He moves away from me after dropping a quick kiss to my stomach then to my mouth, then helps me off the counter, holding me steady until the feeling returns in my legs. “You good?” I feel like I’ve got sea legs for a minute, probably because this man has been carrying me around where he wants.

“Yes.” The tingling in my feet hits me hard and fast. I stay still, though. As much as Lawson would like to keep carting me around, I do need to walk.

“Alright, let’s eat on the couch. You can prop your feet up while you eat.” I’m shocked he’s not carrying me to what I’ll be doing next. Lawson is taking this bed rest thing a bit to the extreme.

“I can sit in a normal chair at the dining table. It’d be nice to stay more vertical than horizontal for a change.” He stops in his tracks, veers back toward the kitchen, and puts our plates on the table. I’m about to grab our drinks when he clears his throat with that don’t even think about it tactic.

“I’ll give you this, but then you’re relaxing. I didn’t ask the doctor about sex. Probably should have.” The last part he’s murmuring more to himself than he is to me.

“Lawson, you’re going to give yourself a heart attack with worry. I’m okay. The medicine is helping, and I would have taken it sooner had it been in my possession.” My stomach decides to growl in response. I take my seat. Seeing as how Lawson is doing everything on his own, I may as well keep him from having a coronary. I kind of want to offer to do dishes just to see what happens. He’d probably blow a fuse, cart my ass back to bed, and tie me up there.

“Well, appease me for the time being. I swear I’m still recovering.” He doesn’t elaborate, and I don’t discuss anything further. I’m too busy inhaling my food. I think I may have found my favorite food ever. Sandwiches minus the lunch meat, extra crispy bacon, thickly sliced tomatoes, a big piece of lettuce, and extra mayonnaise. The fruit, mainly watermelon, is coming in a close second. The added bonus is the man I get to sit with.

FIFTEEN

LAWSON

“I figured I’d find you out here.” When I woke up, Juniper wasn’t wrapped around me. It took me a minute to shake the sleep off and realize she must have gotten out of bed without me. Apparently, keeping her fed, relaxing in the sun, and not worrying nearly as much has me conking out and sleeping like a damn rock. A few minutes later, I got up, did my morning routine, walked into the kitchen, and saw the pot of coffee was brewed and the light glowing, indicating it hadn’t been sitting there for hours. I poured myself a cup, walked to the sliding glass door, and found my woman.

“About time you woke up, sleepy head.” She tips her head back, looking up at me. Juniper has a blanket spread beneath her on the grassy bank. A small creek runs through this side of the property and allows for a nice place to sit and enjoy the beauty of nature.

“Someone wore me out earlier,” I tease her. She’s propped up on her elbows, wearing my shirt from yesterday and giving me a delicious view of her upper thighs. I’d bet anything she’s naked beneath the cotton fabric, too.

“By the looks of it, not at all.” I’m wearing a pair of jeans, button undone, and she’s not wrong. My cock is rock hard as I imagine how she’d look taking my length to the back of her throat while I fuck her face.

“You’re out here, and the sun is shining. All is fucking well.” I bend down to place my cup of coffee out of the way. Where Juniper is, I’ll be right there beside her, behind her, or in front of her. I feel her hand touch the back of my calf, squeezing it gently, letting me know she needs me. Our days together without the outside world closing in on us have done a world of good. She's usually a workaholic yet hasn’t once asked when we’re heading back, and while I brought my work with me, not a lick of it has been done since we’ve figured our shit out together. Nothing else matters except Juniper and our unborn child.

“Are you coming to sit with me?” she asks with hopefulness in her tone.
