“Ramsey,” I whisper.
He makes a rumbling sound and turns around, walking toward the fields.
“Ramsey?” I ask when he pauses.
He’s looking over his shoulder at me, wolfish eyes staring steadily, his body heaving but seeming calmer than before. Luckily, he’s not rock-freaking-hard this time, so at least Mom doesn’t have to see that.
“What do you want?” I ask.
Ramsey rumbles, nodding his head, then I get it.
“You want me to go with you.”
He snarls softly, his silver fur seeming to bristle.
“Ruby,” Mom says from behind me.
But I just walk ahead, ignoring doubts, not letting myself think about this ever going wrong.
Not letting myself think that my man, my children’s future father, would ever hurt me.
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Ramsey
When my human climbs onto my back, intense pleasure seeps over my muscles, my skin, and right down to my bones.
It’s not sexual pleasure. It’s a feeling of profound belonging, as though every piece of me is in the right place.
Because now, I’ve got my human to complete me.
She buries her hands in my fur, wrapping her legs around me, holding on tightly.
As if I’d ever let her fall.
As I walk forward, I balance myself, shifting so that she’s never in a dangerous position. All my wolfish instincts are aimed toward this one goal, to keep her safe above all costs.
There would be hell to pay if anybody tried to hurt her now.
I stalk beneath the trees, suddenly alight with scents and sounds and brightness, more vivid with detail than it could ever have been before. And that’s even with the haziness of the wolf-vision. The scents are mostly what guide me, my heavy paws crunching the underbrush.
“Where are we going?” she asks.
Nowhere. We’re just together. Just us. Me and you.
“I don’t care anyway,” she says, as though reading my mind.
That same euphoria drifts through me, into my heart, my wolf’s howling soul.
“This is enough. Just you and me. I knew you’d never hurt me.”
As if I could hurt her.
The thought seems absurd now, with my bones so strong, my mind so clear. I’m sharper than I’ve ever been.
The control over my scent, my movements, and my impulses intensify. It all feels so clear with my human there to bolster me.
“Do you know what happened?”
No.
I softly growl as I push aside branches with my nose, my claws sinking into the deep rich earth.
“You changed with joy or reached a monk-like state is Liam said. Do you remember that?”
My body surges and my pulse is pumping quicker. I experienced the true change-joy, the one which I never even dreamed I could.
It takes years of mastery, of training, and yet....
She giggles as I pick up the pace, bouncing softly, always mindful of her position. But she doesn’t feel or sound or smell scared.
My woman.
She’s the one who made it possible, who did this to me. I remember trying to keep the wolf at bay before the change, but then I was here, how I am now.
Completely at peace. Ready for anything, for our future.
I can finally inhale her scent freely, letting it fill me up without fear. The sex is for when I’m the man, but I was foolishly allowing that instinct to drive me because my mind was too flooded with the wolf.
I didn’t know what I was thinking.
But now I do.
This is what we are, my human and me. She is the balm that soothes all of me. She is the strength when I’m weak.
I move even quicker, running at a light jog now. My human sends out notes of exhilaration, with a tiny bit of fear beneath, but good fear, ready-for-it fear.
We’re both pumping with the joy of this, the fact that we can be together.
When we get someplace private….
And I can even think about that now when I’m a person again.
I can imagine throwing her down on the bed and sinking between her slick thighs, tasting her like she deserves, licking her fast until she starts shimmering for me, for the man Ramsey.
My human fills the air with her laughter, a song driving me on as I extend my powerful legs and run even faster.
We break through the trees into another set of fields, the air rushing against us, the happiness rushing through us.
Ruby starts to cry out.
“Whooooop! Ramsey! Whoooop!”
I howl in pure ecstasy as her pleasure moves into me, flooding me.
Not with the wolf. With her.
Flooded with my woman, with our destiny.
Finally, I stop at a large tree, lowering myself down and letting Ruby climb off.
She stumbles over to the tree, laying her hand against it, laughing as she wipes at her forehead.
“That was the best rollercoaster ever. I mean, I’ve never been on one. But I bet it’s better than any out there.”
I slump against the tree, my tongue hanging out, unable to do anything but bask in the pleasure of this, knowing now that I can never hurt my woman.
