“Lordy me,” I exhale. And I wait to feel inadequate or even jealous, but those feelings don’t come. I know that no one can come close to what we have. We’re fire together, and I know he loves only me. “And you call me greedy.”

He reaches for my hand, kissing the back of it. “You are.”

“Only for you,” I say, and he grins against the back of my hand.

“Just know, you are the only one who matters, baby doll,” he tells me, and I know he means it.

“I know,” I say with a wink, and he kisses my hand again.

“Thanks for being so supportive about this shit with Sabine.”

I squeeze his hand. “It’s gonna work out. I know it is.”

He nods, though his eyes are hollow. “I want it to, but if the letter from Jaylin doesn’t work, I might have to offer her money and see what she says.”

I swallow hard, my stomach twisting. “I wish she’d just recognize how wonderful you’d be for Sabine.”

“How wonderful we’d be,” he corrects, running his lips along the back of my hand. “She knows of you, so does Sabine. They knew before we even got back together.”

“I can’t wait to meet her.”

“Me either,” he says softly, sighing against my hand.

I watch him for a moment, and then I find myself asking, “Do you want dragon babies?” His laughter is quick and fills his face as he stops at a light. He drags his lips along my fingers, his eyes meeting mine as he chuckles against the back of my hand. “You’re great with Celeste and Raine, and Jaylin said you’re like that with all kids.”

His Adam’s apple bobs as his gaze stays locked with mine. “Yeah, do you?”

“I do,” I answer, and I’m surprised by how confident I am. “Maybe not with wings, though,” I tease, and he grins.

“I’ll do my best to stay in human form when we start mating,” he jokes, and Lord above, help me with this nerdy man.

On a serious note, I say, “Though, I’ll probably gain weight.”

He shrugs. “So? That’s what happens when you have a baby. Works great for me because it just gives me more to hold on to when I’m making more of them.” His lips curve in a sinister grin before he winks, blasting heat between my legs.

“Just so sure, huh?” I ask, astounded by his confidence in us.

“Yeah. Aren’t you?”

I realize that, lost in his eyes, I am. “Yes.”

He leans toward me, and I meet him halfway for our lips to press together. It’s only for a second before the car behind us honks, but I don’t get upset.

Because I have forever and a day for kisses like that.

Chapter Thirty-Four

Dart

After going home and getting ready to head to the rink, which consisted of a lot of touching and more, we’re back in my truck. Tennessee huffs a breath beside me.

“What’s wrong?” I ask when I notice she is typing violently on her phone. “Who are you wanting to hit instead of text?”

That gets me a grin as she slams her phone down on her lap. “My momma is being unreasonable. We got into it last night—”

“I know. I heard.” She looks at me with disbelief. “Yeah, I was standing there for like ten minutes before I finally spoke.”

“Are you serious?”

“Yeah. I didn’t say anything because I was in awe of you, but then you were going off and I was just stunned.”

“You heard me?”

“Oh yeah,” I say with a chuckle, and just like it did last night, my heart swells in my chest. Full of wild love just for her. “I was super in my feelings, but hearing you defend us, man, it did a number on me.”

“I meant every word I said.”

“Baby doll, I felt every word,” I say simply, and even without her telling me, I’d known she did. She was red-faced, stomping around and ready to fight for us. For our love. And I couldn’t stop myself from falling in love with her all over again. Which is becoming a daily occurrence, really. “I heard it in your voice. Is she still not convinced?”

“It’s not that.” She rolls her eyes. “So, you remember my ex-best friends, Josie and Lindy?”

“The girls at the hotel, the ones who put you down and whom I dislike greatly.”

Her eyes sparkle. “Yes. Well, Josie got knocked up by Denis, and now she wants me at the wedding.”

My whole face scrunches up in confusion. “Wait. Isn’t Denis your ex? The one she told you to settle for?”

“Yes.”

“Man, I don’t know what’s going on in Tennessee, the state, because in Canada, there’d be a beatdown.”

She laughs at that. “I’d have to care to want to beat her up. But can you believe my mom wants me to go to their wedding?”

“Eh…” I draw out. “Your family is intertwined with hers, so I get it.”
