“You gonna do something about it?” Champ growled.
“Gonna leave you here while I go home alone, that’s what I’m gonna… ooof! Put me down, you oaf!” Quinn giggled as Champ hauled the smaller man over his shoulder toward the entry hall…
Leaving me alone with Jasper Huxley.
“They don’t know you very well, do they?” he asked softly. “Carter, maybe, but the others don’t get you at all.”
This was so close to what I’d been thinking myself that I couldn’t help but smile as I turned in Hux’s arms. “You don’t think so?”
He shook his head. “Carter thinks you’re completely in control. Champ thinks you’re all about the work. Riggs thinks you can’t handle me.”
I looped my arms around his neck. “And you know better?”
“Oh yeah.” His nose nudged my jaw. “You’re all about helping—that’s what drives you to work as hard as you do. You’re not always in control either…” His teeth scraped across my chin, and I shivered uncontrollably.
“And can I handle you?” I breathed.
Hux pulled back so he could look at me. “Better than anyone else in the world,” he said candidly.
“Stay here with me tonight?” I asked. The words seemed to tumble out so easily when I was looking into his eyes instead of getting caught up in my own brain. I should probably try to remember that. “It’s protocol,” I added. “I looked it up.”
Hux’s lips widened into a giant smile, transforming his entire face and setting off my heart again. “Well, if it’s protocol…”
He brushed his fingers over my lips.
“Can we order pizza, though? I’m starving.” His words sounded casual, as if it was a simple hangout with friends, but his eyes were the complete opposite. They locked onto mine and pulled some kind of Medusa magic. I stood frozen in place, completely unable to move, the only thought in my mind I need this man alone. Now.
Hux’s hand trailed down my chest. “I’m going to take that as a yes,” he said softly.
Pretty sure I let out a squeaky noise just to make sure he knew I was on board with the plan and grabbed his hand, towing him toward the basement door and down into my personal space.
“Henry, don’t let anyone in the lair without alerting me,” I called out. “And could you order us a pizza. The usual order.”
“Yes, sire,” the AI replied in his calm voice.
Hux stopped in his tracks, nearly dislocating my arm from the shoulder. “Who the fuck is Henry?”
“Oh dear,” Henry said.
Hux, who’d been glancing around like he expected a man to pop out from behind the curtain, stood still in the middle of the room. “Wait, is this your AI? He has a name? Holy shit, Kevin.”
I flushed. “Surely you heard me talk to him the other night when we were here. Remember?”
Hux’s attention snapped back to me like a rubber band, and the force of it made me catch my breath. “I was a little bit distracted by other things last time we were here. Remember?”
I opened my mouth to tease back, but a visceral memory of the two of us together in this room swamped me. The things he’d said, the way he’d touched me, the way he’d made me feel.
Be honest, Carter had said. So, I thought about the most honest thing I could do at that moment.
I launched myself at Hux’s face and kissed him like it had been years rather than hours. I kissed him like I needed to make up for all the times I hadn’t kissed anyone. Hux’s strong arms banded around me like I might try to escape, but the joke was on him because I wanted nothing more than to stay right there, tightly held against his body, for as long as I could. For as long as he’d let me.
When he sank to his knees, I misunderstood and sank down with him. The feeling of his laugh against my mouth made me ebullient. I felt like I could float away and roam untethered across the earth with a stupid, dopey grin on my face hereafter.
We ended up humping each other on the floor. It wasn’t pretty or poetic, but it was frantic and claiming and hot as hell. It was perfect.
His strength—the way his body weight pressed me down, his muscles tense and firm and somehow commanding—turned me on. His every move seemed possessive in a way that made my pulse quicken and my breathing stutter in ragged, erratic gulps.
In no time at all, I felt my release narrowing in on me, racing toward an inevitable embarrassment. Did adult men come in their pants like an uncontrollable young teen? And if so, how did they escape gracefully to change out of goopy clothes—
“Oh god, fuck. Coming.” Hux’s broken voice was all the permission I needed. My orgasm ripped through me as my body arched against his thrusting cock.
