I had no doubt she knew how to ride. Hell, she’d probably ridden against more cowboys than I had in my time on the circuit. And a few months ago I might have ushered her into my room and let her do just that to me. But not tonight.

“I was told by your partner that you liked brunettes.”

All I could do was stare at her. It was true. I liked brunettes, I liked blondes, redheads, hell, I wasn’t prejudiced when it came to women. I loved all women, all shapes and all sizes. I also respected the hell out of them because I knew my mother would personally hunt me down and cut off my balls if she ever found out I wasn’t treating a woman right. It was part of the reason I kept the sleeping around to a minimum, even though my reputation said otherwise. I didn’t contradict it; I did like an occasional hook-up. Contrary to what everyone said, though, I wasn’t a manwhore like some of the other guys out here. Don’t get me wrong, I liked sex. A lot. But I never slept with the buckle bunnies.

Chance, on the other hand, hell, he had gone on a fucking binge after Jessica had left him. I swore he would sleep with any woman who looked at him. And as much as I really wanted to let this woman into my room, especially since I hadn’t had sex in a few months, the girl currently running her tongue over my jaw wasn’t the girl I wanted to be with. I lifted my arms and pulled her hands back as I gently pushed her away from me.

With a smile, I shook my head. “As much as I appreciate the offer, sweetheart, not tonight.”

The woman stood there with a stunned expression on her face. It wasn’t often cowboys turned down a beautiful woman, and the one standing in front of me was indeed beautiful. She looked past me into the room, probably to see if I had someone else already waiting for me. She frowned and then looked back at me. “You’re saying no?”

I nodded. “That’s right, I’m saying no.”

This had become the latest in a string of the word no I seemed to be giving women. None of them caught my attention, hadn’t since I’d been back home, truth be told, and I was beginning to wonder if something was majorly wrong with my cock since nothing got the bastard hard. Not. One. Thing. Well, that was a complete lie. My nightly dreams of Timberlynn got me plenty hard simply thinking of her. And it didn’t mind when I thought about her in the shower either.

The brunette took another step closer to me. I took a step back. “You’re actually turning me down?” she asked again, this time with a bit of laughter in her voice.

“It’s not you, you’re beautiful. And you have a smoking hot body. I’m just not interested.” I sighed and rubbed the back of my neck, wishing she would just move along to the next guy.

“Tanner, you have no idea what you’re turning down, and I most certainly won’t offer it to you again.” She snarled her lip up at me as if I had offended her.

“I’m pretty sure I do, and I’m not interested in what you have to offer, but I’m sure you’ll find a cowboy who roped tonight and is looking for a meaningless fuck. You’ll probably find countless ones in this hotel alone if you look harder, although maybe you’re only interested in the buckle winners.”

It was a dick thing to say because she flinched and took a step back. We both knew every word was true though.

“Screw you, asshole.” She turned and stomped away.

Without another glance in her direction, I closed the door to my hotel room and locked it. The sooner this night was over, the faster I could head back home. Fuck. I was so exhausted I didn’t even bother putting on a pair of boxers. Just dropped my towel and fell onto the bed, knowing what I would dream about the moment my head hit the pillow. Well, not what…but who.

The drive back to Montana from Colorado felt like it was taking forever. Chance slept damn near the whole time. I was positive it was from his previous night’s adventure. This morning the brunette from last night had passed me by in the lobby and told me she found another buckle winner and thoroughly enjoyed being with Chance last night—yeah, whatever, that hadn’t caught me off guard in the least bit. But I also saw Chance saying goodbye to another woman—a hot blonde—when I had gotten back from my morning run.

I’d woken up with a smile, still thinking about the dreams I’d had of Timberlynn and knowing that we were headed home today. I needed to burn off some energy while I waited for Chance to get his shit together. So, even with my ankle giving me hell, it felt good to run, especially in the cool, crisp Colorado air.
