“Whatever you say,” she responded seriously. “You’re in charge, after all.”
“Fuck,” I grunted as I clenched my hands at my sides to keep from grabbing her. “You can’t say shit like that to me, baby. Go, before I lose my mind and fuck you up against this wall.”
The door to the bathroom was almost closed when she popped her head out and said, “Rain check?” then shut it before I could do more than groan at the images in my head.
“Definitely a rain check,” I growled before I forced myself to walk away.

Marleigh
The two weeks Clay was supposed to spend in my apartment flew by, even with the added few days due to an unexpected holdup in his renovations. We were having an amazing time getting to know each other—in and out of bed—but one dark cloud lingered in the back of my mind. Other than that one day in the park when we’d made the bet—when losing had turned out to be the most amazing thing ever—Clay hadn’t said anything about his plans to move me into his place when it was ready. The only mention he’d made was that he would have movers coming soon for his stuff.
The ringing of my cell phone dragged me out of my thoughts, and I pulled it out of my pocket to glance down at my screen. Seeing Wrenley’s name made me smile. We’d barely talked since she went to the gala with Jordan, so I hadn’t found the right time to share with her about what was happening with Clay and me yet. I’d thought about bringing it up myself any of the times we’d talked on the phone, but I preferred to do it in person.
However, I couldn’t wait any longer. My need to talk to someone about my relationship with Clay was too strong. After pressing the button to accept her call, I said, “You have the most perfect timing in the world.”
“I do?” Her laughter drifted through the line, full of happiness. “Were you getting ready to call me, and my number popped up before you could press send?”
That had happened to us more times than I could count, so I wasn’t surprised she’d think that was what I meant. “No, but there’s something I wanted to talk to you about.”
“What a coincidence,” she cried. “I had some news I couldn’t wait to share with you.”
My stomach was turning with nerves, so I latched onto her words as a chance to put off what I was going to say, if only for a few minutes. “You sound so excited. How about you go first?”
“I’m engaged!” she shrieked.
“Oh, my gosh! That’s wonderful!”
“And I landed a big contract with Every Woman!”
My eyes widened. “Holy crap, that’s a huge break. I’m so happy for you.”
“Right?” I smiled at her giggle. “It’s been a pretty crazy couple of days. I’m sorry I didn’t call right after Jordan proposed, but we were kind of…busy.”
I snickered. “Yeah, I’m sure you were.”
“I’ll skip over the details of our celebration since that isn’t the most important part.” She giggled again. “I originally landed a deal with Adore Her, but Jordan wasn’t happy about men panting over pictures of me in racy lingerie.”
Thinking about how Clay would react to something like that, I murmured, “I’m sure that’s an understatement.”
“At first, yeah,” she admitted. “Then when I told him that I’d give up the job, he got all sweet and supportive. He said that he never wanted to stand in the way of my dreams coming true.”
“I love that for you.” Deeply touched by how Jordan had been willing to do what was best for Wrenley, I sniffled. “But if he backed off, how did you end up with the Every Woman deal instead of Adore Her? Did they offer you more money?”
“No, but modeling lingerie while pregnant isn’t ideal, so Adore Her bailed. But Amanda had heard that Every Woman was gearing up to launch a maternity line, so she reached out to them,” she explained.
“Pregnant? Maternity?” I echoed softly.
“Oh yeah…didn’t I mention that I’m pregnant?”
My head jerked back as I breathed, “Um, no.”
“But that’s not why Jordan asked me to marry him,” she rushed to assure me. “He already had the ring picked out before he told his mom that I might already be pregnant.”
“I’m going to need you to back up a few steps because I feel as though I’m missing big chunks of this story.”
While she filled me in on everything that had been going on with her and Jordan, I counted back the days.
“Oh, and when you’re ready to launch your fashion line, we can easily get Jordan to fund it. When I was waiting to hear back from Amanda, he offered to give you whatever you needed if it came down to it.”
