“We’ll be ready. We always are,” he says, putting his arm around my shoulder.
“I know.”
“You know what else?” he asks mischievously.
“No, what?” I lie. I know exactly where this is going.
“I can’t wait to fuck you later, my luscious girl,” he growls.
“Mmm… me either,” I reply, already wet and willing for him.
After dinner, I know just what I am going to get for dessert.
He squeezes my shoulder, and I take in a deep breath, basking in everything Jefferson and I have built together. This is where I am meant to be. I shudder to think of everything I would have missed out on if everything that I thought I wanted to happen, happened. I wouldn’t be with this man. The man who loves me so much it radiates from his every move, touch, kiss. I also wouldn’t have my babies, who mean so much to me. I’d die for any one of them. The joy that they bring me can’t be bought.
My parents split their time between here and Cheyenne. It’s just a three-hour drive, but Cheyenne is home to them. I can make my home wherever Jefferson is. He sets my soul on fire and makes me so happy that I can’t see straight sometimes.
No one told me that being wasn’t enough, and I am so glad that they didn’t. Everything happens for a reason, just as when it’s supposed to and how it’s supposed to. I take comfort in knowing that while I was hating and lamenting everything, just like a teenager, this was waiting for me to take it.
