There’s a grizzly bear shifter too.

But what sticks out the most is the wolf. The wolf shifter is fucking smiling as he flies by us with a long Samurai sword strapped to his back.

They suddenly all stop their bikes, cut the engines, step off them, and surround my livid bear. His blood is boiling as he looks around at all of them, trying to decide which one to slice open first.

“Noah Michaels,” the grizzly bear shifter says in a deep voice. “I am Jackson Kelly and we are The Foxhounds. Unfortunately, we have been tasked to dispose of your feral bear. You are a danger to society and the shifter collective have ruled on your immediate termination.”

The pulse of my Kodiak is thundering through us as he glares at the grizzly shifter. I can feel his intentions. There will be no surrender. He wants to maul this man.

“If you still have the slightest control over your bear, Noah Michaels, please phase back to your human form now.”

Jackson and the other shifters wait as I try one last time to pull him in. It’s hopeless. He’s so strong. It’s like a toddler trying to take down a grown man.

“Very well,” Jackson continues. “We will do this the hard way.”

“You mean da fun way,” the wolf shifter says with a thick French accent as he pulls out his sword. He slices it through the air, grinning while walking forward.

My bear spins and swats a deadly paw at him with a roar. He jumps back with a laugh. “We got a feisty one, boys.”

“Ryker,” Jackson says to the guy with the tattoo sleeves. “And Grayson.” The blond polar bear shifter looks at him. “Bears out. Don’t get sloppy this time.”

My Kodiak gnashes his teeth and curls his claws as he looks from one shifter to the other. They’re on either side of us, taking off their clothes. Ryker, the other Kodiak, has four long scars running along his chest. Probably got too close to a nasty rabid bear like mine.

“Maybe Ryker can get another slice on his chest going da other way,” the Frenchman says with a laugh. “Den we can play, how do you call it, Tic Tac Orteille?”

“Tic Tac Toe, you French fuck,” Ryker says as he kicks off his shoes with a nasty look on his face. “And you come near my chest, I’ll break your fucking hand.”

“That’s enough,” Jackson barks. “Focus, boys. I don’t want this messy like last time.”

“Don’t worry, boss,” Grayson says as he brings his polar bear forward. “This will be clean, easy, and fun.”

A large raging polar bear explodes out of his body with a vicious roar. While my bear is growling at him, a giant Kodiak bear explodes out of Ryker.

“Last chance,” Jackson warns with his arms crossed over his massive chest. “Come on out, Noah, if you can. It will be much better for you if you do.”

I don’t even try. There’s no point. Apathy has taken over and I’ve given up. All I want is for these shifters to do what they came here for.

I want them to end it.

My bear disagrees.

He charges forward with a feral snarl and lunges at Jackson. The grizzly bear shifter leaps out of the way at the last second and my furious bear lands on his paws with an enraged roar.

Before he can turn around and try again, both the polar bear and the Kodiak bear slam into him, slicing their razor-sharp claws on my bear’s thick hide as they snap their deadly jaws, trying to bite off a chunk of him.

The three bears explode into a chaotic brawl as I watch from within, trying to figure out what’s going on. It’s a blur of chomping teeth, slicing claws, splattering blood, and flying fur.

Pain shoots through our ribs when a paw catches us. My Kodiak gives as good as he gets, fighting viciously despite the uneven numbers.

He lunges on the polar bear, bringing him down and sinking his teeth into fresh meat. The bear roars in outrage as my bear digs his teeth deeper into his shoulder.

The Kodiak slams into us, bringing us down, but my bear rolls back up with a violent snarl. He swats a paw at him as the two bears regroup and come at us, side by side. Jackson, the grizzly shifter, is watching in his human form. I don’t know where the wolf shifter is and I think my bear has forgotten all about him. To be fair, he is rather busy at the moment with two enormous angry bears approaching.

He plants his huge paws on the ground and doesn’t back down despite being outnumbered. He’s going to fight these shifters to the death. I can sense it.

Either they’ll complete their mission and put us down, or all four of them will be cold corpses before the sun sets.
