She let her body go limp against him. She had no idea how any of that had transpired. It had been instinctive. What she did know was that, in the near future, she wanted to hone her skills because there was no doubt Fate sent her here to be Felix’s mate for a reason, and she intended to serve her purpose for the good of the pack.

Chapter Twenty-One

“What did Damon say?” Khloe asked Felix two hours later as Felix ended his call.

He’d gotten his Little girl home, given her a bath, and fed her dinner. He’d made the necessary calls, and now he just wanted to hold his mate in his arms and relax.

She was in her playpen, but he knew she’d been doing nothing but watching him pace the room while he spoke on the phone.

Felix reached in and picked her up. “He spoke to Surge. Apparently Drow and Firat met with several other bears after they left us in a huff earlier today. They tried to stir up shit and challenged others to come see you for themselves.”

“How did they find me?”

“The bear shifters have more advanced abilities than we do, Little one.” He carried her to the couch and sat with her straddling him, keeping his hands on her back. The last thing he needed tonight would be for her to fall over backward and hit her head. “We don’t fully understand their capabilities, but I’m not surprised they can track us down.”

His precious mate sat taller, holding her head high. “Well, I can track them down, too, so they won’t be able to sneak up on us.”

He smiled. “Apparently not. Plus you scared the piss out of them. Those two were cocky. They didn’t realize you could sense them ahead of time. They thought they could mask themselves. They were wrong. I think it will be a while before more bears come out in search of you, but we won’t let our guard down.”

She shrugged. He’d never seen her this brave. She had changed even since this morning. In fact, she looked into his eyes now and said, “I do a better job of controlling my visions when I’m shifted.”

“I noticed that.”

“I don’t black out or faint or whatever. The vision is faster and sharper and easier to understand in wolf form.”

“And it would seem you had an inkling a vision was coming. That’s why you shoved back and shifted so fast.”

She nodded. “Yes. Were you mad?”

“No, Baby girl. I will never get mad at you for managing the visions any way you need to. I recognize it’s safer for you to shift when you feel one coming on. You don’t need to explain yourself to me. Do what you need to do and fill me in as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

She threw her arms around him and hugged him tight. “Thank you, Daddy. You’re the bestest Daddy in the world.” She leaned back and grinned at him. “Guess what else I can do when I’m shifted?”

His brows came together. “Goodness, there’s more?”

She giggled. “I can pee in the woods. You don’t have to hold me up. It’s almost like having some privacy to do my business.”

He laughed. “Perfect, but don’t start asking me if you can shift and go outside every time you want to pee. The answer will be no.”

She sighed and bit her lip. She needed to tell him one more thing. “Also…”

He rolled his eyes. “Heavens. What else?”

“I’m fast.”

He frowned. “Fast?”

“Yeah, like really fast. I can run faster than you, and I had an adrenaline rush when those bears arrived and lurched forward with incredible speed.”

He smiled at her. “I noticed that last part. How do you know you can run faster?”

“I was holding back,” she admitted.

He chuckled before leaning her back farther. “You are so full of surprises. Just so we’re clear, my rules only ease when you have a vision, understood?”

“Yes, Sir.”

“Your wolf is extremely dominant. It’s going to be an adjustment for Alpha Protectors to trust your judgement and allow you to step in when necessary. I do not ever want you in harm’s way, though. You were pushing the limit out there this evening. You got lucky when those bears backed down and ran off, but I will not have you entering a skirmish.” He gave her a pointed look.

“Okay, Daddy, but just in case, I think it would be helpful if you trained me on how to defend myself.”

“I agree, Little one. I think it’s high time we held some defense classes for all of our mates. Olivia could definitely use some advanced skills, but the others would benefit as well. I’ll be talking to Damon, Arion, Brock, and Elias first thing tomorrow about ensuring all our mates are prepared for an attack of any sort.”
