“Fine.” She crosses her arms over her chest, and it pushes her tits together. Sure, she’s wearing a sweater and a jacket over that, but I’ve got a great imagination. And I’m definitely imagining what Felicity’s breasts look like underneath all the layers of clothing.

“I’ll be right back.” I head inside to get her some coffee.

Chapter 3

Felicity

I watch as Shep heads inside. I try not to notice the way his jeans fit him just right in the ass area. He may be covered up with his flannel and jeans, but I can tell he works out. I’ve seen him this past summer, sitting on his porch. Not working in his yard.

It’s like his brown eyes have a fire burning behind his irises, and his beard is perfectly trimmed. He’s definitely good-looking, not that I’m noticing.

My phone vibrates in my pocket, and I pull it out to answer it.

“Emmie, I’m standing on my neighbor’s porch right now, can this wait?” I tap my foot on the porch. I really hope he can’t hear me.

“Is that why you're whispering?” Emmie’s voice is way too loud. I turn the volume down on my phone.

“Yes, oh my god.” I turn my back to the door, like somehow that might help, “Why are you blowing up my phone?” This is the third time she’s called since I’ve been over here.

“Do you have a date for the party at work this weekend?” She’s practically squealing in my ear.

“No,” I whisper. “I just got left at the altar in September. I haven’t been dating, Emmie, you know this.”

“Everyone knows, that’s the problem.”

“What do you mean? Are people talking about me at work?”

“I mean, yeah. At first they felt bad for you, but now they’re wondering if you’re ever going to get back to normal?”

“Who’s wondering?” I’m still keeping my voice low as I sneak a peek over my shoulder to make sure Shepherd hasn’t come back yet.

“The people on our floor, Richards, everyone.”

“Our boss?” Mr. Richards is a stickler for professionalism. He’s also the one person at work who knows how badly I was hurt by Karl leaving me at the altar. He gave me time off to heal. However, I’m sure he has expected me to bounce back sooner, rather than later. “Are you serious?” I can’t believe this. “I don’t have time to find a date right now. I have that big account to prep for after the holidays. What am I gonna do?”

“You need someone hot and charming. Get that sympathy smell off you.”

“There’s a smell?”

“No.” Emmie giggles. “Not a literal smell, Felicity.”

“So who should I bring then? Do I really need a guy to bring up my image? I’m good at what I do. I think I can make this happen without a date.”

“Normally, I’d say that’s true. But since you were left at the altar, you need someone that shows you’re still in the game. That you can’t be stopped by that coward. Like a man palate cleanser.”

“Come on, that is not a thing.”

I can smell fresh coffee and realize that Shepherd is coming back. “Emmie, I have to go.” My voice is rushed, and she knows me too well.

“Your neighbor is coming back? Is it that hot guy next door?”

“He’s not—”

“He is,” Emmie cuts in. “And you should totally ask him to go with you.”

“One big problem with that plan.”

“What?”

“You said my date also has to be charming. My neighbor is not charming.” I turn around right as Shepherd’s walking through the screen door. I notice all too late that he left it open. Did he hear everything I said?

I hang up the phone, cutting off Emmie as she goes on another rant about how I need a date for this holiday party.

Shepherd hands me the coffee mug. “So, I’m not charming?”

Chapter 4

Shepherd

I caught her off guard and I’m relishing in that. Her smug little face turns red as she tries to hide her smirk in the coffee mug I just gave her. She’s too damn cute for her own good. Yet, she also screams sex by the way her hair falls over her shoulders in waves. Makes me want to wrap it up in my fist. Watch her take my cock deep down her throat.

I shake my head. Where did those thoughts even come from? I haven’t been interested in a woman in a long time. Almost feels like I never would ever again.

However, here she is, awakening a part of me that’s been dead for so long.

She takes a sip of the coffee and nearly spits it out. “Wow, that’s strong.”

“What? You don’t like it?”

She shakes her head and looks into the mug, “No, it’s fine, thank you for bringing some out.” She takes a seat in my chair, and I stare down at her. “I’ll just wait here while you gather my decorations.”
