“I’m guessing you need a little blue pill to help you handle things in bed too, huh?”

Last night I had my signals crossed, from the alcohol obviously. I don’t remember everything, but I sure as shit remember her comment at the elevator—being with me is nauseating.

“Willow, maybe your past boyfriends needed that blue pill because they couldn’t get it up with all your nagging.”

“We need to leave,” she shouts, purposely trying to kill me.

I stand up and grin, grabbing a bottle of water off the dresser as I walk past it. She follows behind me and slams the door as we walk out.

“Is it possible for you to not annoy me?” I whisper as we reach the elevator.

“Is it possible for you not to be an asshole?”

The elevator door opens and we step inside. “Good one,” I reply.

We stand in silence as we descend to the lobby where we are meeting everyone for some kind of scavenger hunt. What the hell kind of wedding fun is this? I thought we’d be drinking and seeing strippers, not walking around the Vegas Strip looking for items on a list.

“Are you going to be able to fake liking me at least?” she asks.

“I did it last night, I can do it today.”

The elevator opens and there’s my family standing in the lobby. Loud, laughing, and the center of attention. I love it though, wouldn’t want it any other way. But it’s a little hard to handle with this hangover.

“Drink your water, it’s hot out there and it won’t help your hangover,” Willow whispers.

I lower my eyes to her as we walk toward everyone and grin. She’s a pain in my ass, but she’s still trying to make this fake relationship look real. I’ll give her credit for that.

“The love birds are finally here,” Anya shouts.

“Not so loud,” I say, kissing her cheek.

“Little hungover?” she asks with a giggle.

“Just a little. I’ll be fine. Willow is making me drink water.”

“She’s such a sweetheart. You’re so lucky to have her, Brock,” Hartford says.

I glance around at Anya, Hartford, and Willow as they smile at each other. They’re putting it on a little thick here. What the hell do they know?

Before I can ask, my mother wraps her arms around me. “Brock Atwood, I am so happy. Willow is the perfect girl for you. My heart is so full.”

Christ, this is why I never lied to my mother growing up. She doesn’t even realize she’s making you feel guilty. This time though, I can’t confess. I need to stick with the choices I’ve made.

“Thanks, Mom. It’s all new, but I’m happy too,” I lie.

“I’m not surprised. I always saw something between you two.”

I want to laugh. I want to tell her she needs to get her eyes checked because there is no way she ever saw anything between us. But I don’t say that because she taught me not to be rude and I’m pretty sure my dad would kick my ass.

Thankfully, Paxton interrupts and we all focus on him.

“Hartford thought it would be fun to do a scavenger hunt today. There are two people to a team and you all have a list of items. The first team to find all the items wins.”

“What do we win?” Tripp shouts.

“Fifty bucks,” Paxton says.

Willow stands next to me and I wrap my arm around her, pulling her closer. I lean into her, making it appear I’m kissing her neck, but I whisper, “Can we just go back to the room and sleep? This isn’t worth fifty bucks.”

She giggles and wraps her arm around my back, pinching my side. Fuck it hurts, but I hold my ground. “Nope. We’re going to smile and play along. It’s just another game we need to make it through,” she says while smiling.

Another game. She’s got that right. This entire thing with us is nothing but a game and lucky for her I’m a competitive mother fucker.

“Aren’t you guys excited?” Hartford asks, bouncing on her toes.

“Yeah, can’t wait to get started,” Willow says.

“How long do we get?” I ask.

Hartford rushes up to stand by Paxton and smiles. “Once you’ve found everything, you’ll text the number at the bottom of the paper and meet back here. If you still haven’t found everything in three hours, you can just head back here.”

“Three hours? Is she serious?” Tripp asks, stepping next to me.

“Sounds like it.”

“How did I get stuck with Lake?”

I feel Willow tense beside me and I lean over pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “My guess is he was supposed to be with my girl, so you drew the short straw. You better not let that asshole win, little brother. Do everything in your power to mess it up and I’ll give you fifty bucks.”

“Brock,” Willow scolds.

“Done,” Tripp says, nodding.

I smile and pull Willow closer to me. Maybe this will be fun after all.
