“No, you need to be a handy babysitter and the dude who gives her orgasms.”

Boomer groaned because he should have known he was going to get the Big Tag lecture. Everyone did. He knew exactly how it went. “I know. Wear a condom.”

Big Tag’s head shook. “Absolutely not, man. She married the last dude who got her pregnant, so get in there. Give your soldiers the go order and let them do their job. They’re going to all retire soon. You’re not getting any younger. Knock her up. Take her down. Make sure she wakes up happy and barely notices how quickly you managed to secure your position.”

Wow. He hadn’t expected that. He would have to tell Deke and Hutch that Big Tag approved of his sperm doing its job. It was probably because of how well he’d taken that arrow once. Of course, there was a problem with the scenario Tag laid out.

“I’m not even sure if she wants other kids.” It wasn’t like they’d gotten to a place where they would have that discussion. “Lou’s twelve. She would have to start over.”

“She does,” Ian said. “Daphne told MaeBe, who told Erin, who was overheard by Devi, who told Kala, who told me. Don’t be mad. Information exchange is part of her allowance agreement. The kid’s got expensive tastes, and the others haven’t figured out how to monetize their greatest asset—the fact that often no one notices they’re listening in.”

She’d told MaeBe she wanted more kids? MaeBe had mentioned something about having a nice talk with Daphne, and now that he thought about it, she’d said Daphne had always wanted a bigger family.

It was good to know she had an open mind. “I’m taking it slow. She needs to ease into this. Like I said, we haven’t even been on a real date, and I’m going to have to tell her that I’m worried about her in-laws.”

Alex clapped his hands together in obvious delight. “Told you he would figure it out.”

“He’s still not sure if Kyle’s alive or dead. I worry about him sometimes.” Big Tag’s voice had gone low.

Hah! He could figure things out. “Kyle’s alive. Otherwise you wouldn’t be joking about it. You were all sad and shit when you thought Theo was dead, so that means Kyle’s alive. He’s a dumbass because MaeBe’s not going to be waiting on him when he gets his shit together. He’s going to come back and she’s going to have moved on.”

She was getting very invested in the guy online. So invested he might have to talk with Hutch about it. Anyone talking to MaeBe on a regular basis needed to be vetted.

“Oh, and now she has a taste for a man’s balls, and not in a happy, fun way.” Big Tag shifted in his seat again. “And I’m not saying shit because I swore I wouldn’t, but your logic is sound, Boom. On Kyle and on your girlfriend’s in-laws. They pay for Lou’s school and have since she was in preschool. I think that’s the route you should go down. If you want, we can have someone poke into their finances and ask a few questions.”

“Do it. Eve’s right. I don’t like the fact that whoever it was managed to ruin Daphne’s things but not touch Lou’s room,” Boomer admitted. “It was almost like they were ordered not to. From what I can tell, the in-laws are invested in Lou but treat Daph like crap. But try to be as quiet as possible about it. I’ll look into a few things on my end. I need evidence before I go to her. The in-laws are a touchy subject for Daphne. I think the mother-in-law has far too much control, but Daphne is worried about Lou’s future, and I don’t have a right to an opinion at this point.”

“So you need intel to back you up,” Alex concluded. “Talk to MaeBe. She’ll be quiet about it, but she can find out if there’s any evidence that they hired someone.”

Ian’s cell chimed, and he groaned a little when he pulled it out of his pocket. He looked down at the screen. “Awesome. Kenzie apparently is running around with a bunch of rope and says it’s for her sister. I’m supposed to check in, which means don’t let them kill each other. That’s my job in life now. Make sure Seth doesn’t die in a bicycle accident. Make sure Travis doesn’t walk into a wall. I swear that child has no brain. And the girls are the worst. They’ve recently discovered young adult spy books and now they want to be spies. I read them. Oddly enough, not what the Agency teaches.”

Boomer’s own cell pinged, and he picked it up.

Lou’s staying here in the big house tonight. Her first sleepover! Though I’m a little worried because she was talking about knots. Any chance you want to take me to dinner?
