I feel the heat from the explosion on my back and with each step I take, it dwindles to nothing. Twenty minutes later, I’m the only one wandering along a dark and quiet street. My heels hang from my fingers as I walk down the very center of the road, headlights up ahead closing in on me.

The familiar Escalade stops in the middle of the road and I hold up my hands, knowing all four of them are looking back at me. “What the hell took so long?” I demand, letting out a heavy sigh.

All four doors open and not a second later, their gorgeous faces appear as they stand in each of their open doorways. “We went as fast as we could,” King tells me. “There were a lot of fucking people and a lot of different places to look.”

I let out a heavy sigh, drop my heels in the middle of the road and cross my arms over my chest. “I’m surprised you assholes haven’t inserted a tracking device in my arm yet.”

Carver raises a brow and discreetly looks across at Grayson. “I mean, would you be down with that? We were only discussing it last night.”

My mouth drops, staring at the idiot in shock. “Are you fucking kidding me? Of course I’m not down with that, you big ass moron. You can’t be serious right now? In what world do you think I’d ever be okay with that?”

Carver cringes, probably wishing he could be anywhere but here as Cruz laughs, drawing my attention away from Carver, and making me wish that I’d saved the dagger for his shoulder instead. “Geez,” Cruz grins, his eyes sparkling and making just a fraction of the irritation I feel for Carver fade away. “Getting kidnapped really fucks with your mood, huh?”

That’s it. I’m going to fuck them both up.

I narrow my gaze and huff as I storm toward the Escalade, leaving the heels behind, but let’s face it, I won’t be able to wear them again without remembering what went down tonight. Maybe they’ll end up in some cheap thrift store and they can make some other girl happy.

I scoot into the backseat as the guys all get back in, slamming their doors in unison. Carver hits the gas, and within seconds he’s performing a U-turn and speeding back the way he came.

“So, I’m assuming that since you were walking the streets alone that you finally killed her?” Grayson asks, looking back at me from the front passenger seat with a hopeful glimmer sparkling in his eyes.

A scowl pulls at my lips. “Don’t you think I’d look a little happier if I finally killed her?”

He presses his lips into a hard line. “Then what the fuck happened?”

I let out a sigh and lean into King’s side. “She had explosives strapped to her chest and threatened to blow the whole fucking party if I didn’t go with her. Ember was there too.”

“No shit,” Cruz mutters, his brows raising as he shakes his head.

“Uh-huh. They had this weird little escape route out the back of the party and then the bitches threw me in the back of a van and I swear, my hip is so fucking bruised now, but I fucked with Ember’s head, knocked her out and then stabbed Paris with a fucking dagger.”

King laughs as he puts his arm over my shoulder. “That’s my fucking girl.”

“No,” Cruz says, yanking me away from King and tucking me into his side. “That’s my fucking girl. She’s all mine for a whole week, remember?”

The guys groan as I roll my eyes. “Half a week,” I remind him.

“Wait,” Carver says, risking his life by talking to me as he meets my stare in the rearview mirror. “If you were close enough to stab her in the shoulder, why the fuck is she still alive? You just let her get away?”

“It’s not that simple,” I say as he sails through the streets, taking us back past the main entrance of the underground ballroom that we’d just spent the main part of our night in. “There were too many witnesses. Trust me, I would have done anything to slit her throat or detonate the C-4 around her chest, but I couldn’t risk it without other people getting hurt. It killed me to walk away without finishing it, but …”

King’s hand falls to my thigh. “You did the right thing. We’re not about hurting innocent people.”

“Don’t get me wrong. I still blew the fucking van to pieces,” I laugh. “But I waited until she was further away from the crowd, but by then she’d abandoned the van.”

“At least she knows you’re not fucking around,” Grayson says. “What about Ember?”

I shrug my shoulders as the slightest bit of guilt sails through my system and roots itself deep in my gut, right where it will stay until I know if my actions were responsible for ending her life. “Jury is still out on that one,” I tell them, closing my eyes as the exhaustion of my night quickly catches up to me. “Let’s just go home, then tomorrow we can work out exactly how we’re going to kick that bitch’s ass.”
