I stare, my top lip rising in a brazen growl as I watch her pathetically flirt with Carver, but even more so, I watch the way he eats it up as though she’s feeding him his first meal in months.
“Woah, kitty,” Cruz chuckles, keeping his voice low. “Retract the claws.”
I shoot a lethal glare at Cruz as Grayson and King laugh at my unintentional performance. “Call me kitty one more time and I can personally guarantee that you’ll never get a taste of this kitty ever again.”
King sucks in a breath as though my threat is worse than me telling him his dick is about to be chopped off and skinned only so I can then stretch it over my head and wear it as a hat.
Carver shamelessly flirts back, giving Sara all the sexy winks and grins that would have me melting into a puddle of goo, but when he quickly glances up to see where my attention is, it suddenly all makes sense. It’s a fucking show, purely for my benefit, and I got played like a fucking fool.
He doesn’t want her, he just wants to make me sweat, and fuck it, it worked like a goddamn charm.
Sara flicks her hair over her shoulder, and it whips me right in the face, but unfortunately for her, my reflexes are on point and my hand snaps up, gripping the fake blonde strands securely in my palm.
Fuck it. She’s pissed me off and I don’t feel like holding back today; call me a petty bitch, but I don’t fucking care.
I pull hard on her hair and her head tilts straight back, a loud, ear-shattering cry tearing out of her as I go. “Watch yourself,” I warn. “You’re in my way, and I think it’s about time that you start backing up before I make you. Don’t think I’ve forgotten what you did to me.”
Her jaw clenches as she manages to twist her head to catch my eyes. “Let go of me, whore,” she demands, the students around us stopping to stare. “You don’t even belong here. Tell her Carver. She’s hurting me.”
Carver just laughs, watching the two of us.
Sara groans, reaching for her hair and pulling at my hand. “You’re such a fucking bitch.”
“Yeah, that may be true, but this bitch has had a really fucked up weekend, so I suggest you get lost before I start taking it out on you. What’s it going to be? Have you seen Knox lately? I wonder how his face healed?”
Sara huffs and looks at Carver for help again. “Seriously? You’re not going to do something about this?”
“I’m not her keeper,” he tells her. “It’s up to you how and when she releases you, but don’t say that she didn’t warn you. She really did have a fucked up weekend.”
Sara lets out a deep sigh before twisting back to me. “Fine, I’ll go, just let go of my hair, you crazy bitch.”
In an instant, my hand comes loose, and her hair falls down her back like a golden mane. “Ahh, see? There are those magic words,” I tell her as she spins around to shoot a nasty glare at me. “That wasn’t so hard now, was it?”
She huffs and puffs, and after throwing one more glance at Carver, she disappears into the thinning students making their way to their first class of the day.
I instantly zone in on Carver, stepping closer to close the circle around us. “What the hell was that?”
He laughs as the others listen a little too closely. “Nothing,” he says with a shrug, playing it off as though he didn’t just hijack my emotions and shit all over them. “She was just asking to hook up tonight. What’s it to you? You’re not jealous, are you?”
“That’s not what I’m talking about,” I demand, more than fucking jealous, despite not having the right to feel that way, especially when Carver is the one who watches me fawn all over his friends day-in and day-out. “Why did you so easily send her away? It’s obvious that you were just keeping her around to get under my skin. So why bother? Why go to all that fucking effort if you were just going to let her walk away?”
Carver clenches his jaw, hating being called out on his bullshit as a heavy breath comes sailing out of him. He quickly glances around us, making sure the lingering students aren’t close enough to hear. “If you really must know,” he starts, “I need to talk to you—all of you—and to do that, I needed her gone.”
King’s brows furrow as Grayson raises his chin, always ready for whatever bullshit fuckery is going to go down. Cruz on the other hand, leans in, wanting to hear every last word with eager ears.
Carver’s gaze comes back to mine with a strange darkness filtering through his stormy depths. “Sam’s back in the country. I just got his call during homeroom.”
