A good grown-up would have a logical reason for them, right?

Would confidentiality agreements cover chicken nuggets?

“I have a lot of nieces and nephews. They visit quite a bit?” Oh, that’d sounded like a question. “I mean, they visit on a regular basis and I haven’t been grocery shopping lately.”

Yes, that was much better.

His low chuckle had me questioning myself, though. “I’m pretty sure you special ordered these because even that stupid boutique grocery store only sells really healthy dino nuggets, not ABCs.”

How did he know that?

Oh, did I really want to ask that?

As I just waited, slightly paralyzed because I had no idea what to say, he set the box down and traced his fingers over the letters on the front. “When did she find out you were little?”

Groaning, I shook my head. “It was the nuggets, wasn’t it?”

His chuckle did wicked things to me. “You’ve got nothing but nuggets and stuff that looks like tater tots in your freezer and goldfish crackers in the pantry, and there were coloring books spread across your coffee table with a binkie on top.”

Oh, had I not cleaned up last night?

Shoot.

Knowing there was no logical way to deny it, I shrugged. “She didn’t say specifically how she figured it out, but I think it was an ex who was just a bit angry when we broke up? He was the vengeful type and I’m pretty sure he tried to blackmail her.”

Gray’s snort said what he thought of that plan.

“Yeah, I don’t think it worked because shortly after we broke up, his job transferred him to Australia.” He was probably lucky his company didn’t have an office in Timbuktu. “A few weeks later, she invited me over for tea and started asking me how I was going to find a better dominant partner going forward.”

“And you didn’t die right there?” His dryly delivered question had me barely holding back a giggle.

“No, but I was surprised, and clearly I didn’t give a good enough response.” His laughter was a low, sexy sound that sent another shiver through me.

And this time he was so close I knew he couldn’t have missed it.

He didn’t point it out, though.

At least he was polite?

“Is there something you’d like to ask me, Camden?” When I just shook my head, he made a low huff of quiet laughter. “Do you want to ask me to step back?”

It probably wasn’t the smartest thing I could’ve done, but I shook my head again. I hadn’t met a decent guy in ages, and if Grandmother approved enough to deliver him to my house, that meant at the very least he wasn’t a serial killer or a fortune hunter.

And there was still that confidentiality agreement.

The deep, pleased sound he made had me sucking in a breath and forgetting about everything else but him. Instead of backing up or even ignoring it, Gray inched closer and his breath blew right across my neck. I managed not to moan, but it was a close call that got even closer when he decided to keep teasing me. “Do you want to ask me to keep my hands and lips to myself?”

Some Doms were just wicked.

Closing my eyes, I let out a breath and shook my head.

Gray hummed and barely brushed his lips over my neck. The cascade of pleasure that washed through me had that moan finally sneaking out, but he didn’t push. He took his win and eased back enough to give me a tiny amount of breathing room.

It took me a second to realize he was waiting for pushback or something that sounded like a safeword.

Shoot.

“I would like to use stoplight colors as my safewords.” I was trying to sound grown-up and calm, but it came out breathy and needy.

"Such a good boy." Being good earned me another brush of his lips under my ear.

I liked being good.

It was so light I wasn’t even sure I could call it a kiss and it made me ache for more. Sadly, Gray seemed more focused on talking than kissing. “Now, let’s hit the highlights. I’m single. There’s nothing in my background that should worry you. Your grandmother ran a fucking background check on me.”

I managed to only giggle for a second as he huffed. “The only issue you should be aware of is that my mother is the Wicked Witch of the West, but there’s nothing I can do about that.”

Laughing quietly, I nodded. “As far as flaws go, that’s one I can deal with.”

It was honestly something I expected given the social circles he had to hang out in if he knew Grandmother.

“She’s the one who got me into this whole auction nonsense, so someone should really land a house on her.” He scoffed as I tried to decide if wanting to laugh made me naughty. “I really hate how sexy and cute you are.”
