“But it’s sad I can’t have them all.” I liked having pictures. “But I shared.”

Daddy laughed, so I pouted at him. “Oh, don’t pout. You’re very cute when you’re a greedy little collector.”

Hmm, I guessed if I was cute, I couldn’t pout.

“It’s hard to share. It’s even bigger harder to share when they’re little or fun and not boring.” Oops.

Daddy gave me a look like he couldn’t decide if me calling people boring was naughty or not.

“Where else did you do, Daddy?” Yes, that was much more fun to talk about. “You said you had more than two. Was this one or was this room two? Is there more? I’m not being greedy now. I’m just curious.”

And a tiny bit greedy.

“I’m excited too, Daddy.” Just in case he needed me to remind him, I told him again. “I was so good. I was very patient.”

A smiling Daddy was much better than a frowning one.

He was trying not to laugh as he shook his head and squeezed my hand. “I have lots of ideas for what I’m going to work on next, but only one more room got finished today.”

Oh, I got three.

Or was it four?

“Thank you, Daddy.” I had so much stuff hanging up, and it was so pretty and no one could complain now. I kissed his cheek, so excited as he started leading me through the house that I was bouncing.

Daddy laughed, but he tapped my bottom. “You’re going to hurt yourself.”

So had he been trying to reward me, to make a point, or to be silly?

Either way I tried not to giggle ‘cause he wasn’t scary.

“I’ll be good.” Hopefully. “Where is it? I’m so excited, Daddy.”

That made his smile even bigger. “I’m glad. It’s right here.”

Oh, my playroom.

“Daddy, it’s my pictures.” Daddy had put frames up all over the big walls in the room and they had my special little pictures I’d colored in them. “Oh, Daddy…”

“The best works in the entire house needed to go in the most special place.” Daddy let go of my hand as I walked around the playroom, being awesome and not stepping on any toys, and looked at all my drawings.

“There’s so many, Daddy.” The big frames were sprinkled all around the room and made it so pretty. “Thank you.”

Bouncing back over to him, I threw my arms around him and gave him a big hug. “I’m the best in the house, Daddy. You said so.”

“You are.” He kissed my head and gave me an even bigger hug. “But now my favorite artist needs to have food. We’ve both been hard at work.”

Nodding, I bounced again, up and down and up and down. “I got lots done. Then my brain stopped. But that’s okay. I’ll do more later after we have lunch and play and do…do stuff.”

Had Daddy said what we were going to do after lunch?

“Yes.” He kissed my head again. “Lots of stuff but first lots of pizza.”

“Oh, pizza.” That was even better than nuggets. “From where?”

Some pizza was more grown-up than others.

Did Daddy know that?

Before I could worry about us ending up with very boring grown-up pizza, he chuckled. “We’re going to be the chefs. It’s all ready to decorate. You just have to decide if we’re doing two small ones or one big one.”

“I’m gonna be the cooker, Daddy?” It wasn’t frozen? “Really?”

Daddy was trying to be a very good Daddy and not giggle…but that seemed like it was really hard. “Yes, really. It’s not difficult. You’re going to do the fun part and just make it pretty. You like making things pretty.”

Maybe.

“You’ll help?” If it wasn’t frozen, then where were the directions? “I don’t want to do it wrong.”

Sometimes even the directions on the box were hard.

My favorite pizzas said to cook them for a long time and it’d taken me five burned ones to realize they were wrong. They didn’t know how to make their own pizza, so how could I make pizza with no instructions on the box?

“I will do all the hard parts and you just have to decorate.” Daddy kissed my head as he hugged me squishy tight again. “Promise. And I always keep promises.”

Hmm, yes, so far he was right.

He’d even made my walls pretty and now I had fancy galleries too.

“Okay, Daddy.” I was being polite, but he snorted.

“So much skepticism in such a cute boy.” As he shook his head, I giggled. “Come on, cutie. Let’s go show you how much fun this will be.”

He said he’d never been a Daddy before, but he had enough confidence that I wasn’t so sure about that.

Maybe he hadn’t known he was a Daddy?

Yep, he probably hadn’t known what to call himself.

Labels were hard sometimes and people got stuck with the wrong ones. It happened lots and lots but I’d fixed it and showed Daddy he was a Daddy.
