“Me either,” Brody said in a small voice. “I thought I was only scared of spiders.”

“If it was a spider, I’d take care of it for you.” She knew that he had panic attacks over spiders.

“Thanks, Tutu. I’m sorry I couldn’t take care of the mouse for you. I thought I was braver than I am.”

“You are brave.”

“I’m not. I’m a wimp.”

“No talking about yourself like that,” she told him. “You’re plenty brave. Way more courageous than I am.”

“That’s kind of you to say.” He kissed her cheek before pulling back to give her a serious look. “We might have to make a run for it, Tutu.”

“I’ll have to be brave.” She leaned her face against Brody’s arm, sucking on her thumb anxiously. It was times like this when she wished the Fox was here to look after them.

“What’re we going to do?” she asked around her thumb.

“I think you should run while I cover you.”

“What are the two of you doing up there?”

Autumn screamed at the voice. She gaped at the man standing in the open doorway between the living room and the hall.

“Holy fuck!” Brody swore. He put his hand over his chest. “Are you ever going to warn us before you walk in?”

“Doubtful.” His gaze went to her. “Did somebody call for Daddy?”

“Oh wow. You’re like Batman. I sent up a signal with my mind and here you are.”

“I think he’s the opposite of Batman,” Brody said dryly.

“I always felt more of a kinship with the Joker,” the Fox admitted.

“I like the Joker,” she told them. “I always thought he was misunderstood.”

The two of them stared at her. “We need to watch some more movies with the Joker in them,” Brody told her. “Misunderstood?”

“I’ve always felt very misunderstood,” Foxy told her.

Aww. Poor Daddy Foxy.

“You were calling for him with your mind?” Brody asked.

Oh no. Was he upset by that? She dropped her gaze, worried.

“Tutu. Hey, look at me. Please.”

“Are you mad because I was wanting him?” she asked. “It’s not that I didn’t want you.”

He smiled. “I know that. Truth is, I wanted him too. He’s way scarier than some mouse.”

She grinned. “He is.”

“Good to know I’m scarier than a mouse. And that I’m wanted,” the Fox said dryly.

“I need you both,” she told Brody. “Even if he is a bit insane and he can’t date us like a normal person. He fits with us”

Brody stared at her for a long moment. “Yeah, I agree.”

She wrapped her arms around him, holding him close. “Triangles have always been my favorite shape.”

The Fox clapped his hands. “Are the two of you finished ignoring me? I don’t like being ignored. Makes me want to do something to get attention. Something that the two of you might not like.”

They both stared at him.

“So do you want to tell me what’s going on?” the Fox asked.

“Oh my God!” she squealed. “We forgot about the mouse, Brody-bear!”

Brody’s eyes widened. “Um, yeah, there’s a mouse!”

“You couldn’t get it with your lightsaber?” The Fox picked it off the floor and handed it to Brody.

“No. And thank you.”

“Good boy, such nice manners will get you a hand job later.”

“Fox!” Brody protested, going red.

“Damn, I’d pay good money to see that,” she said.

“I’d never charge you, Bunny.” The Fox winked at her.

“Aww, thanks Foxy.”

Brody groaned, hiding his face. She leaned into him, feeling bad about embarrassing him.

“Right, what are we going to do about this mouse?” the Fox asked.

“Brody and I are gonna have to live up here,” she replied. “Can you bring us some supplies? Like, marshmallow, chocolate, energy drinks, bananas . . .”

“Bananas?” the Fox asked.

“Brody likes bananas. Oh, in the fridge is a banana pizza I made him. I call it bazza. Could you get that for him? He loves it.”

Brody made a strange noise that she thought must be eagerness. She patted his hand soothingly. “Don’t worry, Brody-bear, I made you a double batch because I know how much you love it. He ate it so quick last time, Foxy. I went to get him a drink and when I got back, he’d eaten all of it.”

“Is that so,” the Fox drawled.

“And I needs a blankie, my fluffy socks, my Kindle and the TV remote. Anything else?” she asked Brody who just shook his head.

“That’s a good list,” the Fox told her. “But what about if you have to use the bathroom?”

“Oh no, why did you say the P-word?” she wailed, pressing her thighs together. This was terrible. She’d forgotten about needing to go. And now, she really, really had to go!

“I don’t think I said a P-word.” The Fox looked confused.

“You said bathroom. And what do you do in a bathroom? You shower, you brush your teeth or hair, do your make-up or you pee! The pee word.”

“You also poop,” Brody pointed out. “That’s a P-word too.”
