“Brody, you can tell me if something is wrong.”

“I’m fine.”

Stone frowned, crossing his arms over his chest. “I know you’re not. Look, I’m not sexually attracted to you—”

“Uh, thanks for that update?” Brody said, staring at him in shock. How the hell had this conversation taken this turn?

“But I am a Dom, and if you need someone to help you . . . I’m here.”

Oh.

That was really nice.

He could feel himself blushing. A lot of people had a Dom that they weren’t in a relationship with. He’d seen it the few times he’d gone to a club.

But that didn’t work for him. He needed a connection. Trust. Not did he didn’t trust Stone, he did. Just not like that.

Could you trust the Fox?

Was the Fox really a Daddy Dom?

Fuck. Who the fuck knew what the Fox was? The boogeyman under the bed? A stalker in the dark?

A Daddy Dom?

All Brody knew was that he could make him go hard with his words. And the way he’d pressed his body against his . . . yeah, that was the sort of dominance that turned him on.

“Brody?” Stone asked.

“Thanks for the offer, man. I appreciate it. But I couldn’t . . .”

Stone nodded. “Got it. But come on, grab your stuff. I’m taking you home. And no arguments.”

He nodded, not completely immune to the dominance in Stone’s voice. Grabbing his bag, he followed Stone to his truck in silence. The other man drove him home and walked with him to his apartment door.

“This isn’t necessary,” Brody said, feeling embarrassed.

“You’re a good guy, Brody,” Stone said suddenly. “Don’t know if anyone has told you that. You’re smart and care. But you need to look after yourself. Okay? Lots of people would miss you if you weren’t here. And I just want you to know that you’re awesome and that you are worthy. Now, I’ll wait until you lock your door.”

Brody nodded, kind of at a loss for words. He’d always felt like the expendable one at work. Not that he wasn’t appreciated. He knew he was. But he wasn’t strong like the others, he didn’t have their skills. He couldn’t fight or even shoot a gun.

He was just the tech guy.

Or that’s what he’d thought.

“Uh, thanks for the ride. And the talk.”

“No problem. I don’t expect to see you at work until after Christmas. And maybe have a shower before then?”

Growing red, Brody nodded frantically before unlocking the door and turning off his alarm. He relocked it again behind him.

Then he moved through the apartment, making plans for the night. Shower first, then sleep. Food could wait until tomorrow.

Twenty minutes later, he’d showered, but he couldn’t get it out of his mind that Autumn needed him. He drew on a pair of gray sweatpants and a black T-shirt that had written along the front: Show me the candy first, then I get in the van. I’m not an idiot.

Brushing his teeth, he stared at himself in the mirror. “Go to her.”

Right.

He grabbed his phone. He should text her first, see if she was up. However, she might tell him not to come. And now that he’d made up his mind that he had to see her . . . he just had to go.

He checked for an Uber. Urgh, not only was it Saturday night, but it was also the night before Christmas Eve. Which meant there was a long wait.

There was a bar a few blocks which usually had taxis out front. He’d walk there. Pulling a hoodie on, and slipping some sneakers on, he headed out of his apartment.

He was going to see his girl.

He needed her. Badly.

Moving along the street, a strange feeling of being watched came over him but he shook it off. It wasn’t that late. It shouldn’t be dangerous to walk along these streets. But he took a discreet look over his shoulder anyway.

See. Nothing there. He was being an idiot.

As he turned around, suddenly someone was standing there. Where the hell had they come from? All he got was a glimpse of a bald head and yellow teeth before he was grabbed from behind by someone else. Shoved into a nearby alleyway, he fell to his hands and knees, scraping his skin.

Jumping to his feet, he turned to face the two men.

“What do you want? Is it money? Here.” He reached into his pocket and threw his wallet at them, but they didn’t leave. Instead, they drew closer, circling him.

He felt small. Scared.

What the hell did he do?

What was he thinking coming out like this in the dark?

“What do you say, Reg? You want his money?” the bald one said.

“Yep, Sammy,” Reg replied. “But can I play with him first?”

“Been a while since you got to play, so fuck yes.” The other guy moved closer, and Brody stepped back. “Grab him, Reg.”
