“I . . . I . . . uh . . .”

Wow. He was really red.

And had she just asked him if he thought a website for secondhand sexy toys would be viable?

Shoot her now.

“I didn’t say that!” she said in a high-pitched voice.

“I’ll forget I ever heard it!” he said hastily.

They stared at each other, breathing heavily. She took note of his T-shirt. He’d unzipped the hoodie once they got inside. It had the words, If I Avoided Weirdos I Wouldn’t Have Any Friends, on the front. She had to grin.

“Nothing to be embarrassed about.” He cleared his throat. “But if one day you want to show me your vibrator, that would, uh, be okay with me.”

She started giggling. He stared down at her in surprise for a moment before cracking a smile.

Damn, he was gorgeous when he smiled.

She slumped against him and he held her tight. “How did I not know how good your hugs were?”

“I’ve wanted to give you one so often,” he whispered to her. “But I was worried you weren’t ready.”

“Maybe I wasn’t. Touch is hard for me. It always has been. My grandparents never touched me or each other. They were cold people, really. Always wanted me to be perfect at everything. Quiet and never seen. I don’t remember them ever hugging me. When strangers touch me, it makes my skin crawl. But not with you, never with you. I have a feeling I might get addicted to these. Think I can have them on tap?”

“Any time you want. You just tell me.”

She rested her face against the wet patch on his T-shirt. “I got your T-shirt wet, sorry.”

“Don’t be. I should apologize to you.”

She shook her head. “We’re a pair of silly billies, aren’t we? But maybe you were right to hold off. I probably wasn’t ready before. Perhaps it was seeing Brad and Laura that gave me the push I needed to admit my feelings for you.”

He stiffened under her, and she realized the way that sounded.

“Not that I only want you because they’re together.” She leaned back so far that she almost fell out of his lap. Although she was probably getting too heavy. She should hop off. But when she tried to move, he held on to her. “I promise, that’s not why. I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately . . . like that. Urgh, I sound like a high school student with her first crush. But it’s just . . . no one has ever meant as much to me as you do, Brody. And I don’t want to lose you, either. So, maybe I wasn’t ready before. Perhaps, we’ll have to take things a bit slow. But I want you for you.”

A smile crossed his face. “Good, because I want you for you.” He slipped off his glasses before leaning in to kiss her.

The kiss was sweet. It was light and gentle.

And it was just what she needed.

She needed kindness and understanding. When he drew back, her heart was racing.

“Wow,” she said.

He gave her a shy look before putting his glasses on. “That probably wasn’t very good. I haven’t kissed a girl before. I haven’t kissed anyone in ages, and I—”

“Brody.” She put her fingers over his mouth. “Hush, it was perfect. Don’t be so hard on yourself.”

“I just want to be what you need, Tutu. But I’m not sure I can always give you what you need.”

Her heart leaped into her throat. Had they just shared that spectacular kiss for him to tell her that she wasn’t what he needed?

Wait . . . he hadn’t said that. He’d made it sound like something about him was lacking. That was typical of Brody. To make someone else feel better by taking a fault on himself. Or by making fun of himself.

“Is it . . . is it me? Is there something about me? Am I not enough?”

“What? What are you talking about? This is about me.” He stared at her incredulously.

“How could there be anything wrong with you? You’re amazing. Kind, smart, and gorgeous.”

He rubbed at the back of his head, looking slightly sheepish and embarrassed. “You really are good for my ego.”

“It’s just the truth.”

“The thing is . . . I’m not a Daddy Dom.”

“Oh.” She was puzzled for a moment. She knew that. Did he think that was a problem?

“That’s not an issue for me. Did you think I thought you were one?”

He gave a small laugh. “No, I don’t think anyone would ever see me as dominant. I’m actually . . . I’m a Middle.” He said the last bit so quietly that she had to strain to hear him. It was plain to see that he was feeling unsure. She hated that. He should be able to tell her anything.

“Really? I thought you might be a Little, but a Middle is awesome too!”
