“Good girl. You did so well,” the Fox told her. “Such a good girl for Daddy. You took my dick perfectly.”

Shit. She really was floating. She didn’t think she’d be able to move for a hundred years. But then the Fox rolled her onto her back and ordered Brody to clean her up.

And it was so fucking good that she came again.

The Fox glanced down at the text he’d just gotten.

Fuck.

Shit.

Mr. Asshole: Everything is set. You will go ahead with kidnapping Dahlia Paulsen. When you have her, you will be given a location to take her to. I wish to watch you kill her.

Fox: Understood. I’ll be in touch.

He knew it was coming. But he’d hoped to have a lead on where this asshole was already. Now, he had to figure out what to do.

Pouring himself a scotch, he sat on the sofa. It wouldn’t take long for his Bunny and Pup to find him.

He just needed a moment.

Swirling the drink, he tried to think through what to do.

“Daddy? You okay?”

Glancing up, he saw them staring at him. His girl was wearing a dress with long sleeves. It was pale blue with images of bunnies on it. She still wore those damn wristbands, but at least they’d gotten her out of the sweatsuits.

Brody was wearing a T-shirt that declared that Nerds Do It Better.

Hmm, they sure did.

“I heard from Mr. A.”

“What’s going on?” Brody asked. “What does he want?”

He sighed and leaned forward. They both came and sat before him.

“What is it, Daddy? Can we help?”

“No, baby girl. I don’t want you involved in this.” He looked at Brody. “There was one final thing he wanted that I was keeping from you.”

“What was it?” Brody asked.

“I was hoping to discover more information about him before he gave me the details.”

“Fox?” Autumn asked.

“He wants me to kidnap Dahlia, take her to him, then kill her.”

Brody sucked in a breath. “Markovich’s woman? Is it revenge for Markovich interrupting his business?”

“Business? You mean the human trafficking?” Autumn asked.

“Could be. It could also be just a test, and they chose Dahlia because she’d be hard for me to get to. But I’m guessing that Markovich is the reason they chose her. Mr. X was reluctant to kill Markovich because he was his friend. I don’t know how Mr. A feels about Markovich.”

Although if his suspicions were right about who Mr. A was . . .

“What are you going to do?” Autumn asked.

“There’s only one thing I can do. Kidnap Dahlia and take her to the meeting place.”

“Fuc—fudge, Fox, you can’t.” Brody stared at him, horrified.

“I won’t kill her,” he said. “I’ll take out Mr. A before it gets to that.”

“I don’t mean that. Markovich will kill you for putting her in danger. You won’t come back from that.”

“They already think the worst of me.”

“They don’t,” Brody said. “Most of them have doubts. But if you do this . . . they’ll be out for blood, Fox.”

He thought they already were. But he didn’t want his Sunny to think badly of him. She seemed to like Dahlia.

“Fine. What do you suggest?”

Brody licked his lips. “I think we need help.”

“No. I work alone.”

“Maybe before,” Autumn said. “But not now.”

“Neither of you is helping me.” He wouldn’t allow it.

“I could help with surveillance. And you could have a whole team behind you if you say the word.”

“They’ll kill me on sight.”

“No, they won’t,” Brody said. “Especially not if we’re with you.”

“You are not leaving this den. I won’t have it.” He set the scotch aside.

“We’re not helpless,” Autumn said.

But they were precious to him. And they’d been threatened.

“Nothing will happen to us with you there,” Brody told him. “We’ll set it up somewhere random. You could set up security first. Fox, we need help. And it will be better if I’m there, at least. You know they won’t hurt me.”

“I’m not staying here alone,” Autumn cried.

“Fuck.” He closed his eyes. He could call the meeting, but would they come? And if they did . . . yeah, they’d be out for blood.

“Search out a meeting place. I’ll scout it. Only once security is in place I’ll call a meeting.” He opened his eyes, staring at Brody, then his baby girl. “I don’t want to bring either of you.”

“Fox,” Brody said.

“No. You can call into the meeting from here. That’s the only way.”

They looked at each other.

“All right,” Brody said. “But just . . . have us on call before they enter. So they don’t shoot you on sight.”

Like they’d have a chance of doing that.

Less than twenty-four hours later, he stood in an old barn in the middle of fucking nowhere.

Brody had found the place quickly. He’d set up cameras and monitors, as well as scouting an escape route.

As soon as the first car parked outside, he moved to take cover up in the rafters. Brody had begged him to do it this way and he’d agreed for his Pup’s sanity—even though it felt like hiding.
