“I just thought we were taking it slow…being our first day and all,” I reason.

Brandon’s muffled laugh surprises me, but I end up joining him.

Both of us are failing miserably at making this look like something we could keep from anyone, let alone my dad.

It’s a surreal situation, but I can’t think of anyone I’d rather be sharing it with.

“So, what do we do?” I ask, hoping Brandon has the solution to all our problems. He only smiles a crooked grin and shrugs before stealing one more long and hard kiss from me as we both hear the shower faucet shutting off.

My dad is getting ready in record time for a change.

“Just tell me you’re mine. Tell me this is mine,” he rasps, sliding that magic hand between my thighs one last time before he has to keep it to himself for god only knows how much longer.

“I’m all yours,” I assure him, feeling my whole body shudder as I claw at his rippled chest, already missing his huge, hard body.

“Now shoo, before we get caught red-handed,” I shiver, my teeth almost chattering with excitement, a little fear, and nothing but the sheer need for him right now.

I playfully push him out of my bedroom, totally forgetting even to ask if he bought the place next door.

But even though a part of me knows the answer, I know Brandon would only tell me I’ll have to wait and see anyway.

Wait for his big surprise announcement over dinner.

CHAPTER TWELVE

Brandon

Steve’s more relaxed since I spent the afternoon hanging out with him at his workshop.

He apologized for cutting our lunch short and vowed to make up for it tonight over dinner.

But my need to be inside May, filling her with our baby, is more intense than anything, and she tells me she feels exactly the same way.

But it only confuses her more once I tell her I need to come clean to her dad.

Something that seems like a good idea in my mind, but when I see him ready to take us all out to dinner, I just can’t even begin to find the words.

Same as how tongue-tied I got with him trying to bring up the subject earlier.

I know it’ll ruin him emotionally, and it’s hardly conversation for a couple of old friends catching up.

Steve notices my mood as May finishes getting herself ready.

“You gonna shower or change?” he asks, noting the time, but I shake my head, trying to sound casual.

“I’ll be okay like this, won’t I?” I ask, making Steve chuckle.

“You always look fine, my man!” he exclaims, reaching up and clapping my shoulder again.

“Something’s bugging you, though, I can tell,” he remarks. “Maybe we can talk about it over dinner?” he suggests, but I can only force a creased smile and nod, feeling worse about telling him any news by the second now. Everything to do with me being here focuses around May, and it’s really only a matter of time before even Steve sees that.

I offer to drive us in Steve’s car, noticing how tired he still looks, but he reminds me that it’s his night and his treat.

May looks incredible, but her dad doesn’t seem to even notice as I fight the urge to tell her so.

Both of us are fighting the urge to touch and kiss again like we both need it to survive.

I try not to keep my eyes locked on her the whole way to the restaurant, but it’s clear she’s thinking the same things I am.

Dinner and the conversation once we get there are bland to me, it is anyway.

The small town famous for its lobster and shrimp that I thought I was craving seems suddenly tasteless.

The only thing I want in my mouth right now is sitting across from me.

Steve ensures he gets the seat next to me, with May sitting opposite us.

“So, how long are you in town for?” Steve finally asks, polishing off the last bite of his lobster tail.

At least now’s as good a time as any to come clean about moving here permanently.

The idea of living so close to May was good a few days ago when I bought the place, but now I can’t see her anywhere else except next to me every time I look at her.

Even being next door isn’t close enough. How can I just be a neighbor to her when what we both want is to be together forever?

“Uh…I guess it’s time for my big announcement then,” I tell Steve, but my eyes can’t help but lock onto May’s.

She looks suddenly panicked, probably thinking that my big announcement is telling her dad about her and me. What we’ve been up to every chance we’ve had so far.

But I’m quick to tell them both something else.

“I’m gonna stay for good,” I announce, making sure May catches my meaning as I stay focused on her.
