“Nora’s not ready for marriage. She is not ready to be my wife.”

“Are you ready to be her husband?” Trudy asked. “Marriage is a two-way partnership, and you both need to be ready.”

“Go home, Trudy.”

She winked at him, and then turned to leave. He expected her to go, but he should have known Trudy to have the last say.

“Just, one thing, I am going to keep reminding you that marriage is not a scary concept. I know everyone makes it out to be a prison and all the fun is squashed out of it, that you’re with the same person you will come to hate, but it is not always like that. Some marriages, the right ones, married for the right reasons, work. I know I love my husband more now than when we were first married. I’d die for him, and I’d live for him as well. Don’t be afraid of that kind of commitment.” With that, she turned and left.

Gabriel was not thinking of marriage, even if Trudy was.

Nora was happy keeping things secret, and he was busy looking into how she lost everything. He had a private detective looking into the paperwork.

Her aunt and uncle had a very cushy life off Nora’s father’s work. They owned full copyright and all that shit. Something didn’t add up, and he was going to get to the bottom of it. For now, all he had to do was wait a couple of minutes and then he was going to get Nora and leave with her.

He couldn’t help but think about her and how amazing she looked riding his cock. It was like she was designed to be seated on his dick.

His grandfather had only made one true request from him, when he gave the money to start this company. When the time was right, he was not to be a dick to the woman who was going to have his children. Nora wasn’t even pregnant, but he knew the chances increased every time he came inside her. He kept promising himself he was going to get a condom, but the moment he was near her, all bets were off. It was like he couldn’t keep his hands off her, not that he wanted to. She was a dream. His dream. The woman he wanted more than anything.

Running a hand down his face, he didn’t know where any of this was coming from. Maybe he felt responsible because she was a virgin. He’d never been a woman’s first before. Marriage. Children. Why did Trudy have to bring that shit up? He didn’t need to be thinking about any of that.

While his thoughts had been running wild, the time had passed, and it was now okay for him to head down to the mail room. Grabbing his jacket, he walked toward his elevator and then headed toward the mail room.

Marriage? It was not going to happen. He and Nora were just having fun.

Really? You’re going to keep telling yourself that.

He pressed his fingers to his eyes, attempting to clear his thoughts. Now was not the time to keep thinking about that.

The elevator doors opened, and he went in search of Nora. This time, he found her at her desk, going through some documents. The moment he was near, she looked up and smiled at him.

“Gabriel,” she said.

“Are you ready to leave?”

“Yeah, yeah, of course.”

He nodded toward her desk. “What’s that?”

“Oh, this is the order form for all the necessary stationery. I’m the one responsible for making sure the whole building doesn’t run out.” She smiled at him. “I’ve already checked everything off, and tomorrow I’ll order what we need. Is everything okay?” she asked.

Gabriel looked at her, and he was once again taken aback by how beautiful she was. That smile on her lips that wasn’t asking for anything else, and yet she so freely gave it. Not a lot of people were like that.

“Nothing,” he said. “Actually, there’s something I want to ask you.”

“Ask away.”

“Are you on the pill?”

She tilted her head to the side and nodded. “Yeah, I am.”

“And you’ve been taking it?”

“Yeah. I mean, that first time, I thought I had left it at my apartment, but when I rummaged through my bag, I take it with me. I took it the moment I saw it.” She frowned, holding out her bag. “Do you want to check?”

He knew if he checked, it would look like he didn’t trust her, and that wasn’t the case. He was used to people manipulating him. Doing their own shit for their own means.

Her cheeks looked a deeper shade of red. “Don’t you trust me?” she asked.

“I trust you. I don’t need to see it.”

“We’ve not talked about … what we’re doing,” she said, glancing down on the floor.

Fuck this. He didn’t give a fuck if she was pregnant, and that was the scariest truth out of everything. What he cared about was having a good time with Nora.
