Spent, they fell side by side, and then he pulled her close so that she rested her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat, following its pounding rhythm until it slowed along with his breathing.

He chuckled. “That was quite the first kiss.”

She laughed too, delighted with herself and with them, and with Mila for such good advice. That might have been the hottest sex of her life. “I think I might have skipped ahead a few scenes.”

He tapped her nose with a gentle finger. “That was a pretty good starter, but what do you say we take the next course upstairs?”

“I think that’s an excellent idea.”

Still naked, they rose and walked up the stairs. Jay let her go ahead and she could feel his eyes on her naked back and swaying hips. Once again, she was conscious she had no worry about her body in comparison to a supermodel or lingerie model. She was who she was and he either liked what he saw or he didn’t.

So far, all indications were that he liked it very much.

She could still feel his eyes on her as he said, “You’re killing me—you know that, right?”

She chuckled, putting a little extra sway into her hips. She was already aching for him. And when they got to his bedroom, he lifted her again, but this time it was gentle and sweet and he laid her down on that divine king-sized bed as if she were a delicate rose he’d plucked from the garden. His movements were slow now, his touch soft and intimate, and her skin prickled in thrill bumps as his fingertips swept over her and he followed them with kisses.

He was taking his time, getting to know her, learning her responses, finding her most erogenous zones and lingering there, tantalizingly. As much as she’d loved the passion of their first time together, this was something else completely. She allowed herself to be swept away by his touch until it felt as though she were floating on some sexy cloud.

Only when the waves began to shake her body did he enter her again, oh so slowly, so that she could appreciate every inch of him. They rocked together as her hands clung to his neck and she begged him for more—to go harder, faster. But, blissfully, he ignored her commands, keeping a slow and steady pace that kept her hovering on the edge of the strongest orgasm she’d ever experienced. Sweat trickled between her breasts and she realized she was shaking when Jay slid his fingers between hers and held her tight as she reached the peak of her pleasure. Only when her breathing calmed did Jay allow himself to let go, moaning her name into her ear, his breath hot.

Exhausted by their lovemaking, Erin closed her eyes, and only when she woke hours later did she realize that she’d fallen asleep curled up in Jay’s strong arms. She smiled into his chest, feeling warm and safe.

Then she realized she hadn’t given a single thought to the dogs. Were they okay?

She raised up on her elbow and looked down to see two very happy dogs flopped on the bedroom floor, side by side.

She’d never known a heart could be so full.

Chapter Twenty-Four

Jay was always an early riser, but that Thursday morning he stayed in bed as long as he could, just watching Erin sleep. She looked so beautiful with her hair, gloriously tangled from a night of passionate lovemaking, streaming down on the pillow beside her. There was a little smile on her lips. Did she always smile when she was sleeping, or had he given her something to smile about? He liked the fact that he didn’t know yet, but over time, he hoped to find out.

He felt eyes on him and then realized their two dogs were standing, staring at him expectantly. How had he gone from a carefree bachelor to a man with a woman to make coffee for and two dogs to take care of?

He grinned. He didn’t know how, but he was darned happy and grateful it had happened. And it was all down to Erin.

He slipped out of bed so as not to wake her and whistled cheerfully as he headed downstairs to let the dogs out and put the coffee on. He was trying to decide what to make Erin for breakfast when he heard her footsteps behind him.

As Erin walked into the kitchen, her tousled hair falling around her shoulders, he saw with pleasure that she was wearing one of his shirts. It reached to mid-thigh and he was pretty sure she didn’t have anything else on. He was instantly aroused. He wanted nothing more than to take her again, there and then, on the kitchen island.

But as he looked into her beautiful eyes, he saw a slightly uncertain expression that made him suspect Erin wasn’t in the habit of waking up in someone else’s bed. It made him desire her even more, but he also found himself filled with a kind of tenderness. He was suddenly determined to protect her from all of life’s troubles, which was crazy. No one could do that, but the urge was so strong he was taken aback. He’d never felt like that for anyone before.
