“Sorry, Dad,” Marco said, as the door opened. “Sorry, Mom, I didn’t mean to say it like that.” He came to the top of the stairs. “It’s just that everyone is going to be there. Gabrielle is going, everyone. Even Leanna might be there.”
And there it was. Although Leanna was five years older than his son, it would seem his boy had developed a crush on the older girl, and tended to act like a moron around her.
Of course, Tyler and Nate were more than happy to whistle. He glared at his twin eight-year-old sons. They were identical and more than a handful. Thankfully, they were more interested in bikes than in girls.
As for his other children, they were in the kitchen with their mother.
They had six children. Two sets of twins, and then Marco and Lexi, who was approaching one year old.
“Shut up, morons,” Marco said.
He didn’t know how he got so lucky with his fighting kids. Colt’s kids seemed to be angels. Maybe he and Petal should have stopped at five, but then Lexi had come along, and well, he loved having kids with his wife. Also, he should have known it would be easy to get her pregnant. She followed in her mother’s footsteps, only not quite. He never allowed her to sink. With the club, Kim, and himself, as well as Rosalie and Colt, Petal was never on her own, and besides, she also had her mother.
Since having children, Petal had gotten closer to her mother, as she understood to a certain extent.
“Do you want to be writing lines, or how about I take you all to the clubhouse and have the guys watch you stand with your nose up against the wall?” Dirty had resorted to that, especially when the boys hadn’t stopped fighting one another.
There was a second’s pause and his boys apologized.
“Good, now get ready, and be down in time for dinner. I want washed hands and smiles on your faces. Anything less, and you’ll deal with me.”
His kids left, running upstairs, apart from Lexi, who was in her high chair, looking adorable.
“He is going to get his heart broken,” Petal said. “Leanna sees him as a little brother.”
“Yeah, well, heartbreak might be a good thing for him.”
Petal laughed. “You’re not serious.”
“He’s got to learn that every girl he falls in love with will not love him back. You’ve got to save that love for a special woman. The one that takes you by surprise, the one that … drives you crazy, and you cannot stop thinking about. The one that nearly got away, and you wake up and watch her sleep even after ten years of marriage and wonder how you got so lucky.” He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her neck.
“And you still feel lucky?” she asked.
“I feel luckier now than I ever have. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.” They had been through a lot together. She’d been by his side every step of the way.
“Love you, Dirty.”
“Love you too, Petal.”
