I remember when I was old enough to know what that meant, one day at an outing we had as a family, I asked my father if he knew how to do that? He simply looked at my mother, quirked his eyebrow up. I turned to look at her, and noticed she had her mouth covered with a napkin trying to hide her giggle. I didn’t really know what the joke was. But to my surprise, my father put us in the car immediately, drove us home and proceeded to make a three-course meal. To say I was dumbfounded is an understatement. I had no idea he could boil water. Let alone cook. It was then and there I began taking my mom's cooking lessons seriously. Thus, when I fired the cook, I began cooking for my own damn kids.
I am just about to cut the potatoes, when Delta and River emerge. I don’t move initially, just taking in how much she fits in my surroundings. Even as she stands there, fidgeting and nervous, I can’t help but acknowledge that something about her is just…right. The kids must hear them come down as well, because they saunter into the kitchen curious and very serious.
“Jasper and Railynn, I would like for you to meet Delta and her little sister River.” Walking to the side of the kids I look at Delta and say, “Delta, these are my precious gems. My golden nuggets if you will.” Ruffling Jasper’s hair, I already know what he is going to say, and he doesn’t disappoint. He moves my hand off his head and growls in his little kid’s voice.
“Daaad, I am not a nugget.” I chuckle patting him on the back.
“You will always be my nugget little man.” Glancing over, I notice that Rai is simply staring at them. Delta, obviously used to dealing with kids, gets down on her haunches and simply says, “I am so happy to meet you both. I see your dad didn’t lie when he told me about you both.”
Rai steps forward first. “What did he say?” she asks, head cocked as if she is preparing to shoot it down.
“Well, he said you were the most beautiful little girl in the world. I would have to say I agree with him. You look like a little Princess.” This is exactly what Rai wanted to hear, she smiles her great big infectious smile and hugs Delta. For a moment, I want to pull Rai back from her, not used to seeing other people with their hands on my kids. Not even their other nanny. I gather myself, however, aware that with what Delta is going to be to them, I have to become accustomed to this. Even if she doesn’t know it yet.
“Say, do you like Sofia the First?” River bends down to ask Railynn.
“That is all she watches. That and Doc McStuffins. Over and over again.” Jasper walks up to her rolling his eyes as he complains about his sister’s TV habits.
“I bet as the best big brother, you let her watch it too. Don’t you?” I stifle a chuckle as he puffs his chest out. He takes his role as big brother very seriously.
“I do. Although I hate it.”
“Well, what do you like to watch?” Looking over at Delta, I can see her face etched with love for her sister. She sneaks a glance at me, and I nod my head at her, letting her know I am impressed with the job she has done with River. We stare at one another a bit longer, the connection to bold and thick to break. When she licks her lips as she begins to blush, I stop myself from adjusting my cock, aware that we are surrounded by young ones right now.
“I like Puppy Dog Pals and Miles from Tomorrowland.” The excitement in his voice shocks me momentarily. My son is not one for showing how he feels one way or another. So, to have him, obviously so enthused by someone taking an interest in him, makes me feel almost, lacking. Like I haven’t been doing enough.
“I love Miles. It is my favorite. I tell you what, while your sister is watching her shows, why don't you come into my room and watch yours. Whether I am here or not. How does that sound?” This girl is quickly becoming my favorite person. It is not every day you find teens, as in tune and non-selfish as she is. Her apparent care for smaller kids is beautiful. It is causing my protectiveness to liven up a bit. She obviously has a soft heart and people nowadays will take advantage of it and obliterate it.
“Really?!? I can do that?”
“Absolutely!!” She holds her hand out to shake it and he looks at it for a moment before launching himself at her and hugging her. I stumble back a second, completely knocked off axis, but pleased, nonetheless.
