By the time we’d finished a wonderful dinner of steak for me and chicken nuggets and mac and cheese for the naughty cutie, he’d started remembering the frustrating plan that stretched out in front of him.

“I like playing.” Still no title as he squirmed in the car. “And I trust you.”

Aww.

“You’re very sweet.” Kissing his head, I finished buckling his seat belt since we had quite a bit of privacy where I’d parked and I straightened. “Thank you for being so good.”

Yep, I was evil.

But every time I questioned that, my phone roared at me, so…

Before he had to respond politely and get even more frustrated, I smiled and shut the car door, taking my time walking around to the driver’s side. He’d thought of something interesting or naughty because his whole face had lit up as he’d scrambled to do something on his phone, but he was back to looking innocent by the time I was in my seat. “Ready?”

As he nodded, I tried not to look too curious but it was painful. Every time he thought I was distracted with traffic his fingers would fly over the keyboard. He didn’t even have to look at what he was doing—his fingers just seemed to move on their own.

It was fascinating and just a bit scary for some reason.

He even kept up a running commentary on games that were fun to play, carefully bouncing between toys in the playroom and slightly more grown-up things. “I didn’t know people played that naked but I was looking for fun games online and that came up.”

Charlie looked delightfully naïve but I knew how hard he would’ve had to go looking to find anything interesting online.

“I can’t believe it.” Shaking my head, I sighed and gave a very well-done frown. “People need to be more careful about what they put online.”

And someone needed to tell Austin about all the naughty ways people had manipulated party games. I had a feeling that he’d love to do something with that idea at the club. With the way his mind worked, he’d come up with even more fascinating options.

My ridiculous response got another sigh from Charlie. “They do.”

Not being able to laugh or smile was killing me, but I wasn’t sure when or how to change up the tormenting fun. We were at the point where he was either going to have to ask about it or I’d need to find a way to shift us into a scene…maybe punishing him for flirting with the waiter?

Asking him if he wanted to test out the new toys would be too easy but I hadn’t planned the game out well enough.

More strategy would need to be employed next time but I was doing fairly well for slightly last-minute fuckery.

“Here we are.” I wasn’t sure if I was grateful or not that I lived so close to the restaurant but it hadn’t taken much time at all to get back to my place.

Charlie leaned forward and stared at the house as we pulled up in the driveway and into the garage. “It’s an Austin-sized house.”

Laughing, I shook my head. “No, but I’ll admit to it being a bit big for one person.”

As I parked the car and turned it off, his brain finally shifted gears away from pouting and thoughts about being tortured. “I bet you have space for a big playroom.”

Laughing, I nodded. “I do.”

Both the grown-up kind and the innocent kind.

“I don’t have nearly enough toys or fun things for my cute little boy, though.” Giving him a teasing frown, I leaned over and kissed his cheek. “How about you help me pick out the perfect place to make a playroom?”

As he nodded, I grinned wickedly. “It’s got to be so good Austin gets very jealous.”

Charlie laughed and shook his head. “Naughty Daddy.”

Just a bit.

“Me?” Looking dramatically offended, I huffed and hit the button to close the garage door as I climbed out of the car. “Never.”

Charlie was still giggling and bouncing as I came around to help him out, but he was still grown-up enough to throw himself at me and offer his lips up for a kiss. “I get a room?”

Ah.

Giving him a smacky kiss before hugging him tightly and then going back for a softer one, I nodded. “Yes, sweetheart.”

That was a given and I didn’t want him to question it. “We’re going to make sure you have a space here where your little side feels happy and safe. Maybe we make another fort or a tent but we’ll have a safe place for little Charlie so we can come play over here any time you want.”

It was way too early to even think about asking him to move in or anything like that, but it was never too early to make sure he felt welcomed. Yep, I was just making sure he felt safe and wanted. That was very logical and probably made me a thoughtful Daddy.
