But then, the man before her was breathtaking. More so only wearing a towel.

“So now, after breakfast I take Val to school and then when I get back…” He didn’t have to say the rest. She knew what he hinted at.

And while that sounded promising… “You shouldn’t drive when you’re this tired. I’ll take her. You can take a catnap while I’m gone. Then when I get back, I’ll jump in the shower. That’ll give you some extra time to rest.”

“You won’t let me keep sleeping, right?”

“I’d prefer you be awake.”

He chuckled, running his nose along hers, his bushy beard tickling her cheek. “Not what I meant.”

She squeezed his jaw. “How about a preview?”

“You want me to drop my towel?” he teased.

She wanted to say yes, but they didn’t have time for where that might lead. “I already know what you’re packing. I was thinking this instead…” She went up on her toes and captured his mouth.

He must have brushed his teeth sometime during his brain fog because he tasted minty fresh. Unlike her, who, unfortunately, didn’t have time to do the same before rescuing him from the Great Flood. But he didn’t shove her away in disgust or even complain. Instead, with a tilt of his head, he deepened the kiss by burying his fingers into her hair and holding her there.

Not that she was going anywhere. Not yet anyway.

Their tongues tangled and tasted. Their breath and lips meshed perfectly. When a groan worked its way up her throat, it merged with his.

But when he tilted his hips so she could feel almost every inch of his hard length, she pressed a hand against his chest just enough to signal him to stop. If they didn’t quit now, there might be no stopping them. They’d end up on the wet towels scattered over the bathroom floor.

And it wasn’t only the two of them in the house.

When he pulled back slightly, she whispered, “Val’s waiting in the living room,” against his lips. A reminder for them both.

“Too tired to do much more than kiss you right now, anyway. Later. After I get some food and more sleep.”

That promise of later had sparks exploding from her center and made her pussy twinge in anticipation.

“Sure. Later.” Damn it, now that would be all she’d think about. “So… breakfast?” She needed to get their morning back on track so she could get Val to school on time.

“Go. I need a minute.” He adjusted his erection covered in the damp towel.

“You also need some clothes. Can I make a suggestion?”

He lifted both eyebrows.

Her tongue swept over her bottom lip, tasting him once more. “A pair of gray sweatpants, no boxers, and the tightest shirt you have.”

“Damn, woman. Is that foreplay for you?”

With a slight lift over her shoulders and a wicked smile, she confessed, “You have no idea.”

“That’s all it took to catch your attention?”

Her smile grew. “You have no idea.”

“Who knew?” he asked like he was so damn innocent.

“Like you didn’t know. You wore them on purpose.”

He pulled away and grinned. “That would’ve taken some forethought.”

“Uh huh.”

“Hey, I was trying to do the responsible thing and not to fuck things up between us.”

“We won’t let it. But now we’ll have to make up for lost time.”

“Damn right we will.”

Chapter Nineteen

After unlocking the front door, resetting the alarm and placing her keys quietly on the tiny shelf near the entrance, she toed off her Skechers and paused to listen carefully.

Nothing but silence reached her ears. She had to assume Decker was still sleeping. The more rest he could get, the better.

She tiptoed through the living room and jumped when she heard a loud meow behind her. Putting a finger to her lips, she shushed Finn. Of course, he simply stared up at her and meowed again.

Sloane rolled her eyes at him and made her way into the bedroom suite so she could jump in the shower before her “date” with Decker.

Once again Finn caught her by surprise when he shot past her like an orange rocket and darted through the open bedroom door with his cute-sounding kitty trill.

She frowned at how dark the bedroom was, especially after she’d opened the curtains earlier to let in the light. She followed him in and when Finn leapt onto the bed, she saw exactly why the room was now pitch black. A large lump filled the center of her bed. Decker must have decided to crash in her room—that was really his—to take his nap after breakfast.

She must have missed him heading in there since she’d been busy getting Val ready for the day and then packing her—and everything she insisted she needed for a half-day at preschool—into her car.

Soft, steady snoring could be heard as Finn walked both around and over Decker until he found the perfect spot to curl up against him.
