“Going upstairs to pick up the key for the pool car.”

“Where are you going?”

She blinked and stared at him. “Why didn’t you respond to any of my texts?”

“You texted me?”

“Oh, for shit’s sake. Are you serious? I have blisters on my fingers from as many times as I texted you. Check your phone.”

“I was busy.”

“So, you did get them.”

She rolled her eyes when he said, “I didn’t have time to respond.”

She shouldn’t have given him the benefit of the doubt. He was a dick.

Now he just needed to remain that way so he’d be easier to resist.

“I know taking thirty seconds out of your day to text me back will throw off your whole schedule.”

“Funny.”

“You hear me laughing?”

“You never answered me about where you’re going.”

Just like you never answered my texts. “I wanted to head to Hawg Wild to scope it out. Since you’re only giving me one buy to prove myself, I figured I’d try there since you haven’t documented any sales out of that location.”

“We haven’t tried to make buys there because they just bought it. Fletch and Wilder hung out there a bit but it was before it was in the Demons’ hands. We don’t know yet if they’re selling out of there or not.”

“Then, that’s a perfect place for me to see if they are and what I can do.”

He stared at her.

She closed her eyes and shook her head. “I’m going up to grab the key. Since you’re heading up there, too, can you grab me a few federal bucks in case I get the opportunity to score?”

He grumbled something she didn’t catch.

Whatever. Let him grouse. Tonight’s plan was set and she was sticking to it, whether he liked it or not. She wasn’t going to spend another night fighting off sleep in a dark strip mall to only watch a lanky biker collect coins out of washing machines.

As she began to head up the stairs, her heart did the two-step when he roared, “You’re going dressed like that?”

He just noticed what she was wearing? The area wasn’t really well lit, but still…

“Well, yeah.” She soldiered on with hiking up the steps.

Earlier in the afternoon she had hit a consignment clothing store and bought what she thought biker women—like ol’ ladies—would wear.

“No,” he barked, following her up.

No? She rolled her eyes. “I want to fit in. I can’t show up in a T-shirt and sweatpants.”

She had found a perfect denim mini skirt, a black off-the-shoulder sweater that had an open weave so the black lacy bralette she wore underneath could be seen.

She had applied her makeup on thicker than normal. Her black eyeliner was over the top, as well as her dark eyeshadow.

Basically, she was dressed as if she was heading to a rock concert back in the nineties. She also lucked out when she found black, heeled knee-high boots to finish off the badass look.

“You need to go home and change.”

Admittedly, the skirt was extremely short—like one wrong move and she’d be flashing her goodies—and the deep-V bralette showed a bit of cleavage—not that she had a lot—but it would attract attention and that was what she strived for.

“Jesus,” he continued. “I can see your fucking ass cheeks. You’re not wearing that around a crowd of bikers who have no fucking control. Who treat women like shit and think they can do whatever they want to them. You’re not going into that hornets’ nest dressed like that. Especially without backup.”

He sounded like her goddamn father. When she was fifteen. She was now twenty-eight and Crew was so not her father. “I can take care of myself.”

“Cami—”

Cami? Since when did he use her first name?

She stopped almost halfway up between the first and second floors and turned to find him only three steps down from her. “Crew…”

“Don’t you dare fucking argue with me. I gave you a fucking order, so do it. If you want to go undercover, then do it my way or you won’t be doing it at all.”

His way. She gritted her teeth. “Fine. But if it’s okay with you, boss, I want to grab the pool car first so I can head directly to the bar after I go change.”

He sighed. Loudly. Dramatically. Impatiently. “Fine.”

She turned around and continued up the steps, one side of her mouth pulled up. She made sure to emphasize each step up all the way up to the third floor, so he got a really good look at her ass.

Served him right.

When they reached the top landing, he crowded behind her. Before she could punch in the code, he reached past her to do it.

His arm brushing against her pulled a shiver from her and made her nipples tighten. She ignored her body’s reaction to him being so close. To feeling his heat searing her back. To his breath moving her hair.
