She lifts a brow at me, then ducks her head and turns away. I clear my throat as I realize I’ve been staring and haven’t said a word.
“I was smiling because you dressed up for our game night. I wasn’t expecting that.”
“I don’t think that’s why you were smiling, Argon, but I won’t argue.”
“The last thing I want is to argue. You look very nice, Blaise.”
I feel for my magic. I have just enough still coursing through me to pull this off. I watch Blaise’s face as I go from wearing my leathers and tunic to wearing a gray suit and white dress shirt with the top buttons sitting open.
The front of my hair pulls back away from my face and up into a man bun, the back half remaining down. I grin and lift a brow as her lips part and her eyes fill with lust. This time she’s the one who can’t stop staring.
“Now we are both ready for game night,” I murmur as I reach across the table and brush her bangs out of her face.
Bach clears his throat. “Um, shall we choose a game?”
“Yes, I believe we should,” I reply.
“Why in the heavens did you interrupt that moment?” Dinesh groans, drawing my attention.
I look to him and Bach. They’re dressed in little outfits as if dealers in one of those casinos in the earth realm. Solia and Hiasha are dressed in the same manner as they look on and fly around the refreshments.
“It’s fine. We should pick a game. Thank you,” Blaise says.
A floating carousel of games appears, glowing with magic as it spins. I notice a few from my realm and a bunch from the earth realm. I’ve played many of these as a boy.
“You choose,” I say.
Blaise’s eyes light up. “There are so many I would like to try. Have you played any of these?”
“Most of them.”
Her smile falls. “I can’t remember which I’ve played before.”
“You don’t remember?”
“No, I’ve begun to forget things.” She pauses and shifts in her seat. “Um, never mind that. I’m willing to learn something new. It could be fun.”
“Pick, and we will figure out how to play it. If I know the game, I will show you.”
Her smile returns and she cradles her hands to her chest as she looks the carousel over with wide eyes. I love the excitement coming from her. She reaches for a game but pulls her hand back and chews on her lip.
“How about this one?”
“Sorry.” I shrug. I know the game well. It’s from the earth realm. “I’ve played it.”
She claps her hands in excitement. “Good, this should be fun. You can teach me.”
“My pleasure, Lady Blaise,” I say.

I lift a hand to cover my glass as Dinesh tries to fill it with more wine. I’ve already had enough to drink. I’ve been giggling at everything Argon says. At least the pain in my chest isn’t happening tonight.
However, I can barely focus on the game at this point. I look up through my lashes and Argon is staring at me again. I bite my lip and look him over.
“What?” I say as his gaze drops to my lips.
“I’m just watching you enjoy yourself. It’s nice to see you have fun. Are you done with the wine?”
“I think I’ve had enough to drink. You don’t seem to be fazed at all.”
“It would take a lot more before I start to feel the effects. Most times my magic burns right through it.”
“Oh,” I reply and turn my focus back to the game.
“Would you like to stop and talk? You’ve counted the same spaces three times.”
I blush and look at him in surprise. “Did I?”
“Yes, you have. We could call it a night. I’ve had fun, but your lids look like they’re growing heavy.”
I suck my lip into my mouth, not able to look away from him. He looks so sexy tonight. I love his hair and the suit he has on.
My fingers itch to reach into his shirt and touch the smooth-looking skin. If I were closer, I can’t say I wouldn’t make a move. I shake the thought away.
“I don’t think I can play anymore, but I don’t want to call it a night. Will you read to me? I love the sound of your voice.”
I clamp my mouth shut as the words come out. I can’t believe I just said that. He reaches for my face and runs his thumb across my bottom lip.
“Pick a book. We can move to the sofa. I’ll be happy to read to you.”
Chapter 15
The Voice
Blaise
“She wraps the red scarf around her head and takes a look in the mirror,” Argon reads while I lie against his chest, where he pulled me in before he started the book. I’m not sure why he’s tugged me in so close, but the alcohol won’t allow me to think too deeply.
