“We already got that, boy,” Martha declared.
I heard a splash and turned my head to see Alexis had slipped into the pool and Jacob was diving over her head into the water.
When he came up for air, and after he did that man shake of his head to get the water out of his hair, Martha shouted, “If you two fornicate in the pool, I’m not speaking to you for a year.”
Deb gasped.
Cap sounded like he was choking, but since it was on his laughter, that was okay.
Alexis’s cheeks got red.
Zach muttered, “Oh my God.”
Linda snapped, “Martha!”
“Hadn’t planned on it before,” Jacob called, snaking an arm out to claim Alexis. “Guaranteed we’re gonna do it now.”
“Behave yourselves,” Martha yelled. “Raye’s family is here.”
Like she was behaving herself.
“Family is family,” Jacob fired back. “So we’ll do whatever we want.”
My eyes hit my dad’s on the “family is family” comment.
That was when my other hand was taken in a warm, firm grip by a man in my life I cared about.
“Well, at least they moved the copulation station from right next door to Jacob’s unit, so I don’t have to listen to it anymore,” Martha declared. She looked between Dad and Deb. “Kids these days. Gluh.”
Deb, who had scooted a little closer to Dad so Zach could stand with us, put her head on Dad’s shoulder.
And I took a sip of my wine, wondering where I should go shopping for the dress I was going to wear to the renewal of their vows.
On my back, Cap on top, his cock moving inside me, his fingers threaded in mine on the pillow by my head, I breathed his breath, stared into his eyes and memorized how beautiful all I was seeing and feeling was.
“Best night ever,” I whispered.
“Tonight was a good night,” he murmured.
“No. I mean, the night I met you.”
That did it.
He’d been taking it slow, lazy, touching and tasting and exploring and feeding the fire.
But right then, his pupils dilated, a fierce look moved into his face, and lazy went out the window.
I ended the festivities crying out into Cap’s mouth, and not long after, he groaned into mine.
We were back to lazy and slow, touching and exploring silently as we came down.
Then Cap rolled off, and I got out of bed to go clean up and put on my nightie.
When I made it back to the room, Cap had turned out the light on my side of the bed.
I located my panties, slid them up and joined Cap in bed.
He turned out the light on his side and pulled me into his arms.
“I can’t express how happy I am that this visit with Dad has been all it’s been, but even so. I’ll be glad when things calm down so maybe my boyfriend can show me where he lives,” I hinted broadly.
Cap laughed softly and shared, “I’m renting a townhouse off Sixteenth around Bethany Home that’s mostly full of boxes. Though, I got sheets on my bed and the cable hooked up.”
I had no doubt.
It was my experience men and cable were a thing.
“I don’t want to rent, I want to own,” Cap went on. “But I didn’t know, after we set up operations here, if I was going to stay in Phoenix, since Shirleen and Roam are in Denver.”
My insides suddenly got super chilly.
“I thought they were thinking of moving down here,” I remarked.
“They are. It’s all up in the air.”
“Oh,” I mumbled to his chest in the dark.
“Sorry,” he said. “That’s past tense. It was up in the air.” He started to draw randomly on the small of my back. “Recently, I decided I’m staying in Phoenix.”
“Oh!” I chirped.
He laughed softly again before he shared, “Shirleen really likes it down here. It’s not decided, but I see that happening, where I didn’t really before. Not only because of Moses, and Roam, and Moses’s daughters, but because of the Rock Chicks. But now she knows how easy it is to get here, less than a two-hour flight. So I can see that happening.”
“I’d love that for you. I was in the midst of a drama at the time, but she’s sweet with you. In a way I think only Shirleen can be sweet.”
“Yeah,” he muttered.
“Even if it’s just boxes, can I still see your pad?” I asked, because I was curious about the place he’d chosen to spend his time not working, regardless that it was temporary.
“Sure, baby, but you missed a part.”
“What?”
“I want to own.”
Oh man.
I knew what he was saying.
I pressed my lips together.
“It’s not gonna happen tomorrow,” he said. “But I need to put it in your head. Because this place is not big enough for the two of us.”
“They have two-bedroom units at the Oasis,” I told him.
Another quiet laugh, then he found my lips in the dark and whispered, “We’ll see. Now, go to sleep, Rachel.”
