He wasn’t human, but a wolf teaching among the humans, and it wasn’t long before Franny was mated herself and pregnant.

With the opening of the beauty boutique, everyone had come to her for advice, to make complaints, and in return, she helped them with whatever they needed on a beauty level as well as within the pack.

At first, she’d hated her newfound role, now she loved it. She loved being the alpha’s mate.

She and Mateo now had two children. William and Bethany, and tonight, she was going to tell him they were expecting their third child.

Mateo Sr. was also a huge help with the kids, and with helping her get accustomed to her new role.

“It’s time to go splashing around,” Franny said, suddenly getting up from her chair, and Harper couldn’t have agreed more.

They splashed into the lake, and Harper went straight to Mateo, taking Bethany from him and pretending their daughter was an airplane. Her daughter did protest that she needed to focus. There was a giggle to her daughter’s voice.

Mateo grabbed William, splashing him in the water.

Her husband, her mate, was a dream come true. She knew he wished he’d never rejected her. He told her regularly how much he loved her, that she gave him the world. It was strange, because she was glad he did.

Harper knew deep in her heart, she hadn’t been ready to be a mate. At eighteen years old, she’d been given two gifts, and that was how she saw it now. She had been given the gift of her mate, and her freedom. Mateo’s rejection had meant she was able to live her life, to be free, to grow up, to find herself.

All Mateo had done was wait until she was ready. She had told him that on their last anniversary.

She saw their seven years apart as the time she needed. A gift, and now she intended to return the favor, not by leaving him, but by being the woman he needed at his side, to run the pack.

Mateo came toward her, pulling her into his arms.

“Mommy, let me go,” Bethany said.

She still had arm floaties on, so there was no chance of her sinking.

Harper placed her in the water and watched her baby girl paddle as hard and fast as she could. Her daughter was going to be a wildcat when she was older, or more accurately, a wild wolf.

With her mate’s arms around her, Harper glanced around at their pack. Franny had become as much a part of their pack as they were of hers.

This was family.

This was life.

And she was so grateful for all of it.
