“Is that even a question?” I asked, rolling my eyes at him.
“You gonna come hang too?” he asked to Kylo, who gave him a nod.
Was that it?
What I was missing?
Was Kylo maybe going to… join the club?
I guess I would see.
That, like so many things all of a sudden, I couldn’t wait to experience.
Alaric - 6 months
“He seriously bought that place?” Kylo asked as he rubbed at Mackie’s itchy pin feathers, trying to help him get the new feathers to break through their hard outer shells. It was a task he let absolutely no one, not even Remy, help him with. Until now.
Siana once told me that she knew Kylo must be a good guy because Frida had automatically liked him more than anyone else. I guess Mackie’s trust further proved that.
“He’s a fucking lunatic,” I agreed, shaking my head as I watched Coast walk past the window, carrying a box of who-the-fuck-knew-what with him to his new house.
Yeah, the shoebox of a place we’d killed three guys inside of just half a year before.
“I’m surprised Huck is even letting him get a place that far away,” Kylo said as Mackie finally had enough help and whipped around to take a bite of Kylo’s finger. “Ow, man,” he grumbled, rubbing his finger with his other hand.
I’d honestly thought the same thing. But I figured that Coast was most likely just going to be hanging out at the clubhouse since that was where the parties were, but wanted a place to go to when he needed some alone time.
I got that.
And it was only half an hour or forty minutes on a really bad traffic night. Seeley was in Miami all the time still because of Ama’s clinic.
“Hey, don’t be a dick,” Kylo chided the bird who took another lunge at him, “or you don’t get this almond,” he added, reaching into the jar and waving it in front of the macaw. “That’s what I thought,” he said as Mackie gently took the nut, tucked it into his giant beak, and climbed up onto his cage to eat it.
“My guess is he isn’t going to actually live there. Just to have a place he knows is his if he wants some privacy with a chick or something.”
“That’s a rough area,” Kylo said, standing, and making his way to the coffee pot. He still had his limp. He likely always would. But his guts had finally healed up. Apparently, they hadn’t needed to take out much, so the long-term prognosis was better than if they’d removed a lot of intestines. He was instructed to get yearly bloodwork done to make sure he was getting all the nutrients he needed, and to make sure he didn’t lose too much weight without meaning to. Other than that, he was fine. “Isn’t it risky to leave a place empty for long periods over there?”
“The place is kind of like a fortress,” I admitted. “Thick stucco with bars on the windows. And I imagine he will put up a metal security door too. Plus, that fucker is insane,” I added. “If his reputation gets around the area, no one is gonna fuck with him.”
“True,” Kylo agreed, leaning against the counter to sip his coffee. “Didn’t I hear Siana down here earlier?” he asked.
“Yeah. She’s having Che take her out driving,” I admitted.
Maybe someone else would be insulted that she’d asked him to get her back into driving, but Che was a neutral party, and he had a really calming vibe to him. Besides, she likely had even more trust in him because he used to street race and did it without ever getting hurt.
She was anxious as fuck about driving again, but was determined not to let that stop her now that she had a new career to be excited about.
The photography thing had been slow at first, as she tried to build up a portfolio. Luckily for her, though, we had a really big extended family for her to work with, taking kid and family portraits. Pet pictures for the rescue dogs Remy and Lark were working with. Even Teddy let her have full access to all his properties to take pictures, either landscapes or real estate type ones.
Somehow, she’d recently gotten mentioned in a social media post for maternity photography, and had eight new clients set up for the next few weeks. She was hoping to be able to drive to do them on her own, instead of relying on me to bring her.
While I was happy to do it, loved seeing her work, I understood wanting her independence.
“Hey, girl,” Eddie said. “Don’t tell your mama, but I got you some yummy liver for dinner,” he told Frida who was following him into the clubhouse, sniffing at the bags he was carrying.
Frida had a love/hate relationship with the clubhouse.
