He eased out of me and disposed of the condom before gently sitting me up. He held a bottle of water to my lips, and I greedily gulped it down, not realizing how thirsty I was until the water was sliding down my throat.
“You did so well,” Jax praised. “You did exceptionally well, Blakely.”
He set the water aside and began untying me. Then, he massaged my arms and shoulders, making the blood flow back through them properly. I leaned against him, my mind slowly coming back into the real world. I looked down at my body, a noise of surprise leaving my throat. “Woah,” I whispered.
Jax chuckled. “Most women can’t handle what I do,” Jax confessed. “I like the sight of blood. I like causing pain.”
I looked up at him. Shadows coated his dark eyes. I knew those shadows held a lifetime of pain, and my heart ached for him. “You can call Hooked and ask for me anytime,” I told him softly. In fact, the thought of any other woman seeing this side of him made me irrationally jealous.
He just made a noise of acknowledgment before holding the bottle of water to my lips again. I wasn’t sure if he would or not, but a part of me—the part of me that wasn’t supposed to get attached—secretly hoped he did.
I’d never experienced something—or someone—so incredible in my life.
CHAPTER FOUR
Jax
Rain pounded against the tin roof of the garage, damn near louder than the sound of the torque wrench Ace was using to change a customer’s tire. He’d skipped school today, claiming he needed a mental health day, and asked to come into the shop with me.
Hell, I needed a hand, so I allowed it. Konrad hadn’t been happy about it, but I had Arlo backing me, which always helped. Konrad wanted Ace to go to school, but hell, if the kid needed a day to unwind, then he just needed a day. It wasn’t going to kill him to miss a single day of school.
I slid Arlo’s new radiator into place before leaning over the truck to screw it into place. Arlo had been right; it was a simple fix. I wouldn’t charge him for it, but it wouldn’t stop him from putting money in my bank account anyway. He did it every single time.
“Where’d you go last night?” Ace randomly asked from right behind me. I glanced over my shoulder at him. The kid had a bad habit of just sneaking up on all of us. He had a big mouth, but he was quiet as a mouse when he wanted to be. He was a silent killer of sorts. No one would ever know he was coming if he didn’t want them to.
“None of your business,” I told him. I’d done a damn good job of keeping Blakely out of my head, and now—thanks to him—she was right there again.
I never thought I’d find a woman like Blakely. She’d been drenched as I inflicted pain upon her body and left my bruises and marks all over her skin. I knew what it looked like when a woman was faking it for money, but Blakely had been into everything I’d done to her.
I wanted more of her. Desperately. But fuck, I’d just had her last night. Wouldn’t she need time to recover?
Ace arched a brow at me. “Why are you so fucking secretive, Jax?” he asked. “We’re family.”
“Family doesn’t need to fuckin’ know everything,” I told him. I jerked my head in the direction of the car he was working on. “Get back to work, or I’m docking your pay.”
He rolled his eyes at me. “Pull the stick out of your ass,” he griped as he walked back to where he should’ve been putting a new tire on the rim.
“Fucking brat,” I grumbled under my breath as I began attaching the radiator hoses to the new radiator.
Ace swung his head around and stuck his tongue out at me.
“Will you at least be safe?” Ace asked as I idled in front of the clubhouse. Shortly after lunch, I caved and called Evangeline, asking specifically for Blakely to meet me at the same motel, telling her I’d shoot her a message when I had the room number. She had a key to every room since she had some kind of agreement with the owner.
I’d already texted Shaw to let him know I wouldn’t be home tonight. I was sure he’d relay the message to the other guys.
I sighed and leaned my head back against the headrest before looking at him. “Am I never not safe?” I asked him.
Ace glowered at me. “You spent nine years inside, Jax. I’d say you are.”
“Jesus Christ,” I muttered, glaring out the windshield. “One day, I’m going to take a belt to your ass.”
Ace snorted. “I’d probably enjoy it.” I grimaced. He shoved open the truck door and hopped down before turning back to peer in at me. “But seriously, Jax, be safe.”
