“I licked you, so you’re mine.” Damn it, I know that voice too.

“Was that Brooks?” Honey asks.

“I’ve got to go, baby girl,” I say, ending the call and turning around to see the mayor carrying his assistant away. I guess I have to handle the cleanup, but he does make a good point.

Chapter Eight

Honey

It’s been a month since the storm and the town is starting to look like it did before. It’s not completely back to normal, but Axel and his company along with the other contractor, electricians, plumbers, and construction crews, Sweet Temptation Bay feels like home again.

Except, I miss Axel.

He’s been so busy and I’m regretting the whole waiting to be his wife thing.

What if he’s changed his mind? Never once has he shown me anything different when he comes home exhausted and still has the energy to worship me at night. Sliding into bed, stripping me bare, licking me until I’m screaming his name, and then slamming into my tight womb. Axel doesn’t stop until we’re both coming and then we cocoon into each other for the night. It’s a perfect rhythm that I don’t want to end, but we haven’t spoken about getting married since that day.

Several people have gotten married around me, not caring about the town’s devastation. Now there’s a little change in me that I’m sure is something growing and not just my doubt.

Not to mention there hasn’t been a single clue on who attacked my hive. Axel offered to rebuild it, but I told him the town was more important at the moment. Honestly, I’m afraid that whoever did this isn’t done with attacking me.

Although since Gretchen swept through Sweet Temptation Bay, I haven’t had any supply issues. I suppose it’s hard to have them when I don’t have a business up and running. Everything of mine was ruined. Thankfully, the things in my car did manage to survive the flood once we found my car down the road, parked painfully into a mailbox.

My phone alert goes off to tell me someone’s coming up the driveway. I don’t know who it is because we rarely ever get visitors because Axel doesn’t have friends that aren’t his employees because he’s all about work and I have my brother who is always busy. I see a woman pull up in a BMW. When she steps out, I see it’s not a woman but a bitch I can’t stand. Riley Robinson, Councilman Robinson’s niece. If there’s someone whom I’ve disliked since I met, she’d be that person. She’s had her eyes on Axel from the second she arrived in town. She’s finally eighteen, so I’m wondering what she’s doing here, trying to press her luck or catch a legal ass-whooping because it’s coming.

I step out onto the front porch and smirk. “Can I help you, Riley?”

“Yes, you can get out of my man’s house.”

“Hooker, please. When are you going to give it a rest?”

“Look, you’re already too old for him. I’m finally legal. He’s going to want me now.”

“Are you serious? Axel didn’t approach me because he thought I was too young for him. I’m nearly five years older than you. Go home and spread your legs for another millionaire. It didn’t work with Samuels and now he’s locked up.”

“That’s all your fault. Axel was supposed to fall for it, but I guess he couldn’t miss my tattoo.”

“Sweetie. There isn’t a single human being in this town, young or old, who hasn’t seen that tattoo; you don’t wear any clothes that cover your waist—ever.” Hell, she wears halter tops throughout the entire summer, and I’ve watched her flirt with Axel at events to the point that I’ve seen him actually run away. She always claimed it was because he didn’t want to be embarrassed to be aroused, but she didn’t realize that she was a turnoff to men who didn’t want a prison sentence or a headache.

“You’re such a prude and a bitch. Why would he want you?” she screams.

“Because I licked her, and I get to keep her,” Axel says, coming up from the driveway along with the sheriff.

“I hate you.” I’m starting to think she was the one sabotaging my supply orders. After all, her uncle did handle transportation for the town.

“You know. That’s what we all figured, Ms. Robinson. We’d like to speak to you about your uncle and the late or missing shipments that were meant for Ms. Payne’s shops.”

“This is all your fault.” She lunges at me, but Axel pulls me back, and the sheriff hauls her away in cuffs.

“How did you know she’d be here?”

“The house sensor went off, and I wasn’t far. We were working on the sheriff’s house, so he drove me.”

“So, I guess you need a ride back?”

“No, I’d like to have lunch first.”

“I don’t have anything ready.”
