“Where are you?” Clayton croons against my temple, his thumb caressing the side of my neck.

I shiver at the sound of his voice, along with his touch. The fact that Clayton is flawlessly wearing the hell out of his navy tux tonight isn’t lost on me. The color in contrast to his eyes is stunning.

When I look up into his gaze, he searches my face with concern in his probing eyes. I blink away my thoughts. We’ve shared a lot with each other, but he doesn’t need to know that I’m trying to figure out how and when I happened to fall in love with him. I’d also like to know how he managed to wrap me around his finger.

“Just thinking. It’s been a while since I’ve heard from Chloe. I should text her tomorrow,” I reply, avoiding my thoughts totally.

Clayton pulls a face, his eyes clouding over a bit. “They’ll be returning soon,” he says in that dismissive tone of his.

“I hate when you do that,” I blurt out.

“When I do what?” He lifts a brow.

“Say things with such finality. Like I’m supposed to just take your word for whatever and move on.” I narrow my eyes at him.

He presses his hand on the small of my back, drawing me into him. I suck in a breath when I feel his erection poke me in the belly. The cocky smile on his lips causes me to frown at him, which in turn increases his smile.

“Have I ever told you how much it turns me on when you challenge me?” he croons low enough for my ears only.

“No, but I think I get the picture.” I purse my lips at him.

He laughs before pecking my lips. I get ready to fuss some more, but a throat clears, drawing both our attention. Two tall brunettes stand to our right, watching us, one with narrowed hawk eyes, the other with a look of longing on her face.

Clayton stiffens beside me. I turn to look up at him. He looks like he smells shit. The level of disgust on his face is palpable. Whoever these women are, he doesn’t care for them very much.

I look back at them. They both look to be in their thirties. Neither one can be called gorgeous, but not ugly either.

The shorter of the two is more attractive, her hair cups her face, her light blue eyes are large but fit her features. However, there’s something mousy and timid about her. The taller of the two gives off a different vibe, as if she’s full of herself.

Her hair falls to her shoulders, her light-blue eyes holding something different than the woman next to her. Her gaze seems colder, almost calculating and rather dismissive. They’re both a bit long nosed in the face, with thin upper lips. I’d say the taller one just made it on the right side of pretty.

“It’s so good to see you, Clayton,” the taller one purrs, keeping her attention on him.

“Um,” Clayton grumbles.

I lift my brow at his reply, but he’s too busy frowning at our new guests to see. I can’t help wondering who the heck they are. From the tight hold he has on my waist, I don’t know if he’s restraining himself or me.

“It’s good to see you, Clay,” the other one says.

“Leeann.” Clayton nods.

“You know, I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard you were engaged.” The first one continues with a phony laugh.

Oh, yeah, I don’t like this bitch. I’m already coiled to lunge at her. She still hasn’t acknowledged that I’m standing here.

“Not sure why that’s any of your business,” Clayton grits out.

“Congratulations, I’m happy that you’re happy,” Leeann says.

She turns to me and gives a shy smile. She seems to want to say more, but that timid look takes over. I can see her curling into herself as if she would rather hide.

“Oh, come on, we know him well enough. He can’t be serious about this. Isn’t that right, Clay? You’re just having fun with another plaything,” the tall one pouts.

“I don’t share my bed with playthings,” Clayton snorts. “Be careful what you say, Fran.”

Her head whips in my direction, her lips parting for just a moment before she regains her composure. Leeann’s face seems to crumble in the same instant. My curiosity rings loud, but Fran’s reaction arrests my attention.

She looks me over from head to toe. A look of disgust curls her thin lip. She has a lot of nerve.

“Surely, you don’t mean she sleeps in your bed,” she mutters.

“Every single night,” I reply, returning her look of disdain.

Her eyes roll over me again. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Leeann assessing me as well. My attention turns to her when her shoulders sag, her eyes lingering on my ears. Then her head bounces between me and Clayton a few times.
